I have the 525 and an Amstrad Sky Box and a Sony TV. Try as I might I just cannot get it all to work properly. I managed to get all the channels showing on the TV guide including all the Sky ones. The first four (terrestrial) all showed up in the little view box and played OK but when I scrolled down to the others - channel 5 onwards - all I got in the little box was the channel grid and the most awful noise. I assume I have it all connected properly but I have to say the manual may have been in Swahili for all the good it did me - a novice and technical illiterate! I reset it all today to factory setup and tried to do it again - on Easy set up (P 24 in manual) when it got to step 4 and auto tuner preset it managed to detect 11 channels after many minutes but I don't know if I selected the right options after that. Is there anyone out there who has the same set up who can detail for me in very simple terms how it should be connected and any ideas where I may have gone wrong.

I got one of these last week, and I agree, the manual is hugely over-complicated. I got confused several times, but I found once I'd got it all set up, it's dead easy to use after that.
I have a similar set up to yours, but with a NTL cable box instead of Sky. It sounds like the problem is with the connection between your Sky box and the recorder. Do you have your Sky box connected to Line 3? Have you set up the details for it in Guide plus? Has the recorder tested whether it can control the Sky box?
Also, check in "Editor" (p51 of the manual) where your channels are set to record from. It should be "external receiver 1", your Sky box, not "tuner", your TV.

Thanks for that - I will check it out as soon as my brain is up to it! I did go back to basics yesterday and try again - left the Sky box on and the recorder off as it says. This morning I had the grid with all the channels - but no info in any of the boxes! Channels 1 - 4 are fine showing in the little view box but as soon as I scroll down to channel 5 and beyond they are all showing as channel 1 - BBC1. At least I've got rid of the awful noise! And I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds the manual confusing!
