Switching from Media Player to iTunes and iPod

I've been using Windows Media Player as my computer er... media player for years now, and a couple of years ago bought a 40GB iRiver H340 MP3 player.
However, it's looking a bit dated and I'm thinking of getting an iPod Nano.
I've managed to stay well clear up until now, but there are a much larger range of accessories and 3rd party stuff for the iPod, and my wife and I can both have a 2GB nano, which is all the music we really need at any one time. I was still going to use my iRiver as a backup of all the music files on my computer by regularly syncing the files in my music folder.
My question is how easy is it to move to iTunes.
Currently my wife and I use the same computer, we both have different profiles, and all our music (about 25GB) is on a separate 80GB drive and windows media monitors this location and updates each of our media libraries if my wife or I download any new tracks.

The way I see iTunes working is that bought music is downloaded to the currently logged on My Music folder as is the whole of your music library, but this could be a problem, as my wife may want to upload any of these files to her iPod and vice versa. Essentially I will only have access to my own music and my wife hers.
So that's problem number 1, can I change the default library folder or can i allow access to my music folder to my wife and her for me?

Second problem is this. We also have a laptop which is connected to the network wirelessly. I have a network drive mapped to the music folder on my main computer and the media library for that is also updated. We use this laptop as the jukebox in the living room so we can listen to whatever music we want without messing about with CDs and things. Can I still do this with iTunes as well?

Or am I better just not bothering...?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Try the anapod explorer, here is the link

clicky

It works by exploring your actual ipod and you can drag and drop files from any location on to it.
It doesn't require another music library like ITUNES does.
