Hello,

I was thinking of buying a universal remote control and was wondering if anyone currently had one which they knew worked with the homechoice system.

Failing that can anyone recommend a good universal remote. Most of the research I've done so far (which is limited) seems to point to the logitech brand.

Thanks,

Personally, I have a Philips Pronto which I generally love. I've actually got the TSU7000 (USA version) which I imported as the price in the UK at the time last year was so much more. The pronto's are great but it depends how powerful you want the device to be - Pronto's are very good if you like customizing everything, writing macros, doing your own graphics etc. From what I know, Logitech's are good & cheaper but don't have the total flexibility that most Pronto owners love.

But I think you should be OK with any Univeral remote that's capable of learning codes. With the Philips you just point the Pronto and the HC ones at each other so it can learn all the different buttons. It's a bit time-consuming but it's a one-off.

If you end up with the Philips Pronto then let me know and I can give you my Philips configuration file which has all the learnt HC codes in (I searched the net a year ago and couldn't find anyone else who has done this - probably not that many HC owners with URCs).

I used to have a Pronto but didn't like the lack of tactile feedback of the touch screen. I switched to a Harmony remote, and think it's brilliant. It is based on activities rather than single devices, i.e. the 'watch dvd' button will switch on the TV and dvd player and amplifier all at once. It is far easier to program than a Pronto. It works fine with homechoice (although needed a bit of tweaking which the Harmony support people did for me) See www.harmonyremote.com.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you mind me asking which harmony remote you bought?

I was looking at one the other day and though the features would be good I'm not sure I could get on with the remote and the buttons kept making clicking sounds!

Also when you say they had to tweak the system, do you think I'd have to get them to do that for me too or would the system handle that automatically.

Thanks in advance.
