Sir Elton John Wants to Make Hip-Hop Album
Friday, August 25, 2006
LOS ANGELES — Goodbye yellow brick road, hello hip hop.

Sir Elton John tells Rolling Stone magazine that he wants to record a hip-hop album with Grammy-winning producer Dr. Dre.

"I want to work with Pharrell, Timbaland, Snoop, Kanye, Eminem and just see what happens,"John says in the Sept. 7 issue."It may be a disaster, it could be fantastic, but you don't know until you try."

The 59-year-old says he is a fan of Blackstreet's"No Diggity"and Tupac Shakur's"California Love."

"I want to bring my songs and melodies to hip-hop beats,"John says."I love these beats, but I have no idea how to get them."

John performed Eminem's song"Stan"with the rapper during the 2001 Grammy awards.

John's new album,"The Captain and the Kid,"is due in September.

It seems the answer to every failing pop star is to work with Timbaland these days.

I'll be interested to hear it, though.

Surely anyone wishing for fututre work in the music industry should check out his past with a Mr P Doherty.

Timberland is boring. The same beats for Nelly and Justin. It was good in the 90's - early 00's but its stye over substances. The new jack revoulution was the same but that brought a new culture, slang, fashion etc.

There are no words to describe how annoyed I am at this news.
I mean, this is so wrong it's actually laughable...artists are allowed to try all areas of music, of course they are but Elton & Hip Hop.... Does. Not. Compute.

Why are all these artists going Hip-Hop or R'n'B?! Just goes to show what kind of music is hugely over in America...

I saw this coming as soon as i saw him wearing those old school Adidas Run Dmc style tracksuits and shelltoes all the time.

I've heard he'll be working with Outkast on a follow up to their first global hit - Bums Over Baghdad

Working with current artists is something he found worked for him in the 80s when he got George Michael to do backing vocals on one of his lamest singles ever. It resurrected his career that would have been long and deservedly buried but for the stroke of luck of George publically stating that he was a lifelong fan.

He's tried the same thing again with other new artists since with varying degrees of success. Sad if you ask me.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

I'm still laughing at this story. Its way past april 1st!!

It seems that the appearence with eminem has got him thinking he is some kind of bizzarely revered god of the scene like Phil Collins is.

Whatever next, Stevie Wonder's Death Metal Album??

The Pete Doherty duet backfired on him a bit didn't it?

He seems more and more desperate to cling to other artists in order to get himself a bit of credibility. If he had any confidence in himself as a songwriter/performer he wouldn't need these gimmicks.

I've never rated the man. A terrible singer and a mediocre songwriter in my opinion. One of the luckiest men in pop.

Well he did get to no1 with 2Pac on Ghetto Gospel, but his vocals were from the song Indian Sunset in 1971, his voice isn't what it was with no disrespect.

God, is there nothing Elton John won't do to try and be popular/relevent again? He's tried it with various pop acts, and now is attempting to do it via hip hop artists. It's going to be beyond embarrassing, and I wonder how many of them will want to work with him? Hip hop isn't exactly known for endorsing homosexual lifestyles.

lmao!

I think this idea should be put to rest asap. I am not a fan of Elton but surely the majority of his fans are not hip hop fans, and the majority of teenagers wouldn't be seen owning an Elton CD?

Are you sure it didn't say "shit hot" album?

He hasn't done one of them before either.

His Tupac duet with Eminem was pretty good (Ghetto Gospel). It could work, if he does all the singing and the rapper does the rap.

A materialistic drama-queen obsessed with jewelry wants to do a cheesy hip-hop album... How is this going to be different from most of the other hip-hop albums?

Maybe he can beef with Michael Bolton.

I don't find this out of the ordinary at all, particularly when I think of rap tracks by Wham!, Macho Man Randy Savage, Robbie Williams, 'K-Fed', and that bizarre album of hip-hop tracks inspired by... Phil Collins.

Elton John's like the 10th Wu-Tang member by comparison.
