Dial-up/broadband and antique telephones
I've just got a new laptop.
I used to have dial-up internet, which was compatible with traditional dial telephones. I use restored 1950s bakelite phones. If I get broadband - will I be unable to use my phones? I have no desire to upgrade to newer phones. Will I need a new phone-line in order to get broadband separately...?

So far as I'm aware, new exchanges still support pulse dialling/strowger.
But read this - Click Here They don't change the characteristics of your standard telephone line in order to supply ADSL broadband. However, I'm afraid you would have to consult an engineer to conclusively be sure that pulse dialling won't interfere with ADSL. Actually talking, though, won't be any different. Do you know what type of exchange you are on? I'm not sure this is the best forum to be asking this type of question, however. But you might get lucky and someone might be old enough, with current technology experience, to be able to answer your question properly. At worst, you might be forced to modify your traditional 'phones internally to convert the old pulse signal to tone - yet retain their original look and feel.
