Dont think you can if you got it that long ago, but you usually get a "new" or refurbished ipod from apple when you get it repaired,if you wanted a a different one.

I hate the fact people think they're entitled to a refund on faulty stuff.

You bought it *8* months ago, if you got a refund, you'd have had 8 months of *FREE* use from an iPod...

Game may refund it, dunno their policy.

You are only entitled to a refund of a faulty item within a short span of time.

The law doesn't state this, it's up to the retailer, but it's an average 2 weeks.

Otherwise it's a replacement or repair, and the have a "resonable" amount of time to do this. Again the law doesn't state how long.

I bought my first iPod (old 4th generation one) off of Amazon 2 years ago, around December time. Last Christmas I emailed them and told them it was completey recked (it wasn't) and they emailed back and said they no longer stock that particular iPod but if I send it back using recorded delivery they'd refund me the money. I got my money back, about £250 I think, and the next day bought a brand new 60 GB iPod video for less than that.

Morale of the story? Buy directly from Amazon! They're amazing.

You ARE entitled to refunds on faulty stuff!! You buy something, it's faulty, you get a refund! The issue at hand is the time factor, not whether or not you get refunds for faulty goods.

For a limited time after purchase, yes, they are entitled to a refund.

Yes, the issue is the time factor, and i doubt *ANYONE* is going to refund a 8/9month old iPod.

is it faulty, or has the battery just naturally failing after 8 months of heavy use tho'?

would you expect to get a refund on a well worn pair of shoes after eight months?

In which case it'll get replaced with an Apple refurbished iPod.

...But if you had acted sooner you would have either got a refund or a brand new one.

Tellyman - it is THIS statement which is ridiculous - I don't disagree with anything else you say.

Iain - like I said in my own post, the time factor is the issue, how long you've had it and what reasonable wear you expect.

Maybe i should have added 'after a length of time'.

With faulty goods you're entitled to a "reasonable remedy" - the exact definition of which I'll leave you to argue over.

But I don't think a full refund on an 8 month old product is reasonable.

Free repair, or replacement with a refurb maybe.

buy from argos, they always take stuff back after long periods

No they don't.

Argos still repair items, not everything in their catalogue can be returned for an exchange/refund if it's faulty.

My niece bought a brand new Nano 4GB in May of this year from the Apple store.
However, within two weeks of purchasing it the iPod died the center button went so we had to ring up Apple to replace it. They did so without a problem as it was within the 28 days of purchasing it and Apple sent out a brand new replacement.

This replacement that she received in early July kept on freezing and the only thing that she could do was wait until the battery had drained. I had to phone through to Apple about this. We held of sending it in though for a little while but later had to as i think that the speaker blew out on it so that it would only play music in one ear.
By this time though my niece wanted her money back and i was fed up of ringing up about her iPod. Apple refused to give her money back though and they never offered us anything. It was my first time of receiving a service like this as with High Street shops that i have shopped at getting a refund for items like this has never been a problem.
The item was mailed into Apple in August and was replaced. I wrote a letter and i shipped it with the iPod and i informed Apple that anymore problems with this iPod then i will pursue getting my money back from them through the law.

We got the iPod back however my niece had her iPod engraved but Apple sent us back an iPod that was not so the iPod had to go back. My niece is at an age where she likes this kind of thing. Apple messed up with the engraving so the iPod had to go of again for about a week.

This replaced iPod that she received started playing up and i rang Apple and told them what i was intending through the legal system and i finally got them to give us a refund.

This is not a good experience and it kind of makes me think twice about wanting to order an iPod again from Apple directly. So many people do have good experiences with their iPods though but she unfortunately was not one of those people. I have an iPod Mini and mine works fine.
I think that Apple would do well to look at their refund policy again.

I reported a problem with my brother's mini on a friday afternoon, by monday a delivery guy turned up at my office and packed it up. A replacement was with us by friday. As well as fixing the battery life on an 18 or so month old machine, by nature of it being a replacement screen he also got rid of the scratches it had built up from extended use outdoors through his work as a greenkeeper and having dropped it.

I also had a problem with a lacie hard drive purchased form their store and had the same experience - a prompt replacement.

Personally, I've loved my experiences with apple service.

Yes! I bought some boots from Clarks, after about eight months they started letting in water. The shop said "wear and tear", I sent them back to their head office and they reimbursed me what they claimed was a fair amount taking into account eight months of use. Not the full price, but enough to buy a harder-wearing pair, anyway.

I have had no problem with apples warrenty service (though i use the website instead of phoning up) I have had an iPod shuffle and nano - both with faults that look like they were on broken on purpose - replaced within days with no problems.

I was not actually complaining about getting items replaced in my post earlier in this thread. We didn't experience any problems in getting any items replaced. However, when you buy something that is under warranty and has continuos issues in the law you are entitled to your money back.

Fair enough after the first break down after a few of weeks of receiving the Nano a refund was not requested because it was put down to one of those things but after that broke down as well at such an early stage a refund was requested and denied. At this stage my niece had lost faith in the Nano product so that is why she wanted a refund.
Like i wrote earlier i have not experienced any HS shops doing that before so i will not be buying anymore iPods from the Apple store.
The very first replacement that we received i think was new but the others i think that they may have been refurbished.
