Help, cannot work out Mystuff Epg
Angel-Us
30-08-2006
Hello, I got my new topfield box today and of course immediately started playing around with it.

I thought the whole Epg thing would be easy and all I would have to do is put the MyStuff TAP into the auto start file, but I kept getting a message 'No EPG data. Please check your options'.

So I had a read around and found out I needed something to gather the data so eventually managed to configure JAGS, but I'm still getting the same message when loading Mystuff!

Can anyone please shed some light on what exactly I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

Yes the MyStuff TAP doesn't gather it's own EPG data... preuming you want it to use the Freeview EPG, you'll need to install another small TAP called EIT2MEI, that should get you up and running. You'll find it at the excellent www.toppy.org.uk

And with eit2mei you will not need Jags. Jags is a huge TAP which eats a lot of memory so make sure you get rid of it. eit2mei is a one trick TAP and much smaller and is just load and forget.
Make sure you have MS menu items HI & H2 both set to never and H3 set to Freeview.mei. Plus H5 set to NO is good.

Also stick Remote Extender TAP in autostart to get the most from MyStuff.

Have you read the manual for MyStuff? If not, I strongly recommend you do so.

I would recommend that you use the box as it comes for a while, then decide what annoys you about it, and discover which TAPs address those issues.

Thanks for the help, I managed to get everything up and running. When I first turned the box on I wasn't too impressed because I was so used to Sky+, but now everything is working I'm really pleased I choose this over the Humax.

One small point does anyone know if after coming out of stand by for a recording it then goes back into stand by when its finished?

Thanks again for the help, I was pretty close to pulling out my hair.

If it came out of standy to do the recording it will go back afterwards.

Unless, of course, you use the remote or the front panel controls, in which case it assumes you're probably there and want to carry on watching.

Hello,

I was wondering if you guys could help me out again?

Last night I went to watch a recorded programme I had already started viewing earlier in the day and found the recording would only play up until the bit I had previously watched. I thought I may have done something like accidentally deleting it but today it did the same thing with the Apprentice.

Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

How are you setting the recordings?

If you have a full recording (and I cannot think how you could have easily deleted the unwatched bit) then if it was the last thing you watched just press the Resume Playback Key which is what ever you configured it to be in menu item G7.
If it was not the last thing watched then go to library - select recording and press Ok* for start of recording; or play for watch from previous point.
*These buttons may be reversed - see menu item G9.

I have tried to go back into the recording but all I can watch is the bit that I have already watched.

Im setting my recordings from the My stuff epg by pressing record.

Can you tell by looking at the recording times in the archive if they are the full length or just what you have watched?

In fact I would post this problem over on

http://www.toppy.org.uk/

on the MyStuff 4.54 thread where the MyStuff team hang out.

The recording looks like its full length but the counter will have ridiculous times like 51m/22m for example.

I also tried to download the recording to the computer but it also only play's the bit that I've already seen, so the rest must have been deleted

Something like 51m/22m is the format would expect for a partially viewed recording.
You could try using the progress bar to see what is there. (press play while replaying). The yellow bar represents the whole of the recording. FF/FR keys will move the play point, (see red line) can you use this to get into the rest of the recording.

The yellow bar shows the recording as if it were the whole thing but moves through it to the length of the part I've already viewed.

So, my apprentice recording is 62 mins long but I can only watch 7mins of it. The yellow bar may show I'm 51 mins into the recording when i'm actually only 6 in. It's difficult to explain but hopefully you get the gist.

On 2 of my other recordings I can only watch 3 seconds of the show but the information is still showing 32 minutes recorded. Very strange...

Sounds like they are truncated for some reason.
Do a reboot - with the Toppy fully on; not in standby; turn off the power at the plug; leave for a few minutes. Turn back on and do a new recording. See if it is now working OK.

So I deleted all my recordings (what was left of them) and did a re-boot. I recorded a couple of things that were on at the time and they all seem fine.

Hopefully it was just a one time thing but I'll be keeping an eye out from now on, just in case.

If you ever see four dots at the bottom of the display do the reboot again.

I've seen that before, what does it mean?

Thanks for the help by the way, much appreciated.

To be honest I dont know exactly; but it does indicate the software has got a problem; it can be sorted by a reboot. In fact I think some people do a reboot regularly just in case. I dont seem to get the dots very often.
NB I think (may be wrong) over rapid key pressing can cause them.
Hope recordings work OK now.

Just discovered a very rare example of your problem on an old Toppy Uk thread. Might be related to having a nearly full HDD. Thought it had been fixed but maybe it is just very rare.

Yeah, if I remember correctly I was getting a bit annoyed at that point and pressing every button available...

Trust me to have a rare problem, it couldn't have been caused by the HDD being full though because I only had 3 programmes recorded.

Anyway, watched another full recording last night so things are looking up. Maybe all my playing around with TAP's and features did it?
