Which Aussie Soap gets more viewers day by day?

Neighbours is my favourite Aussie Soap and i really hope it gets better viewing then Home And Away.

I think Neighbours generally gets more viewers in the UK, but in OZ H&A is more popular.

Neighbours is by far the best! It doesn't take itself seriously and is perfect mind numbing TV!

Neighbours does much better in the UK, Home and Away does better in Australia.

In Oz, H & A averages around 1.3 million, Neighbours around 1 million. H & A is on a later timeslot and on a network with generally much higher figures than the channel Neighbours is on.

Soaps in general aren't the ratings juggernauts they are in the UK.

in OZ Neighbours rarely attracts a million. usually it gets around 800,000!

Dont watch Home and Away ....
but i do watch Neighbours!

Home and Away get better ratings in Australia...but Neighbours gets better ratings everywhere else

True, it varies but it's gone through a million a few times recently, and at peak times of the year can get up to 1.1-1.2 mill.

Has anyone thought that as Australias' population is only around 15-16 Million and the UKs' is nearly 60M -it's unlikely that Australian viewers will number on a par with the UK.

Plus Home And Away is largely based upon a beachside community, quite a favourite Australian type of lifestyle, and Neighbours is a suberban soap -comparable with a large number of UK viewers (probably).

Yes. You are right. A million would be very very rare!!!

Neighbours does not do well in the ratings at all really especially in Sydney. But the 800, 000 it does get contain a high % of 18-35year olds.

Australia's population is around 20 million. 15-16 was years ago!!!!!!!!

H&A on SEVEN

SEVEN is the second most watched main commercial network. TEN is the weakest and least watched of the main commercial channels.

The current Australian Population is approximately 20,612,395.

Oh! I should get out more I just had to Google for that stat.

why do the soaps in OZ get so few viewers???????? only averaging around 1 million? i thought home and away and neighbours got around the same number of viewers that corrie , ee or emmerdale get in this country? also neighbours is showen in OZ at around 7pm and 1 million viewers in a 7pm is poor!!!

i have always thought of home and away like the ee of OZ and neighbours the corrie of OZ! this is because HAA has more drtamactic grittyer stuff and neighbours is a bit more laid back and more about community spirt a bit like corrie and neighbours doesn't relie on sanastion (explosive) stroylines just like corrie!!!

Oz has had decades of three commercial network competition. Until 82, we only had one main commercial network. Years after OZ, we eventually had three.

This has suprised me!

Just around 1m for a evening show at 7pm (Hone And Away)

Our shows do alot better - or maybe there are more TV lovers here - alot more.

If I lived in Australia I sure as hell wouldn't sit indoors every evening watching soaps!!

Nobody watches the soaps because they are out surfing !

Especially not one called Hone And Away.. Bloody typos.

Or having BBQ's.

I used to be a big fan of neighbours but have given up on it because it is just so boring these days. Home and Away on the other hand has improved greatly, storylines are fantastic and they seem to cast much better actors than Neighbours as well.

It's generally unfair to compare British ratings for Neighbours and Home and Away. Neighbours is on the most popular UK channel whereas Home and Away is on five which is the least watched terrestial channel (and indeed some areas of the UK still can't get it).

However, the fact that Home and Away is five's second highest rating show suggests that it's still doing well in the UK despite being off air for one year when it moved from ITV1.

Too much competition on the TV networks.

All Australian soaps eventually recycle old storylines. But they are made with a fraction of the cost of UK ones.

ITV destroyed Home and Away by knocking it down to 4 a week, taking off the lunchtime episode, and then negotiating with 7 for a year's gapbefore any other network could show it.
