Personally I am a H&A fan. In the UK when both shwos had their highest ratings (two airings on BBC1 and ITV) ratings were usually around 7-8 million, and some times H&A won and sometimes Nighbours did. Below is some Barb ratings from 1998. H&A won this week, but the week after Nieghbours did. There doesnt seem to be any ratings winner in the UK, and you can't count the ratings now as H&A lost a lot of viewers during its 1year off air, then moving to a channel whose top ratings are around 3 million. It does however usually end up in fives top 20.. Take note of the first number, the second two are the ratings for its 1st showing then its repeat, the first number is the two added together.

I have heard that Neighbours could be scarpped if the ratings go down (according to BttB)

BTTB is little biased where Neighbours is concerned.



The shows ratings are down in Oz, however, alot of this is because Network Ten in general is suffering poor ratings.

Neighbours is better than H&A

Mainly because the storylines are more believable (sky being a tart, fake visa applications, max doing a runner), than home and away (a natural disaster every other week, people returning from the dead, same actor but different character, alf always saving the day).

Plus, Pepper, Rosie and the girl to come, Glen, are more appealing to me than Matilda, Cassie, and self centred Martha.

Alfs a legend though

Alf hasnr "Saved the day" for a while now. Hes moving into wise old Alf as he gets older, more for people to go to for advice, and also for his great scenes with Morag. And come on i Know h&a isnt like looking at a documentary, but Neighbours has itss moments.. Evil twins..

I have watched Neighbours religiously since it began and feel that even though it has changed a lot over the years, there is still a familiar feel to it. Maybe its to do with the family element or the Harold and Lou factor, but its quite comforting. Home and Away seems to be a bit lost and I think its because there never feels to be a base to it. They don't live in the same street, all the kids are either fostered of adopted by ex alcoholics who use to abuse their kids (But I must admit I do like Irene!!). On the whole Neighbours just ticks the right boxes for me.

HOME AND AWAY -0/10 Home and away is ridiculas its over the top boring repetative and iritating.

In Oz Neighbours is NOT the best soap - h&a is!

although Neighbours is watchable, strong and realistic!

Neighbours is quite a rare and interesting programme with regard to it's audience share and popularity. I don't think anyone would have predicted the British institution it would become when it first launched. Strange what the public will latch onto sometimes.

As has been said, Home and Away is far more popular in Australia. I'm sure the Producers of the programme were well compensated when the programme moved to five, but it must have been dissapointing to see it's audience so drastically fall away due to nothing more than a change in network.

Neighbours has a rather special place in my heart (very sad, I know) since I watched it as a kid. Always sparks of nostalgia for me. I've only recently been watching Home and Away, which I do quite enjoy. It's a bit glossier and tries a bit harder to be trendy but it's OK for what it is.

Listen, I think we all know that Neighbours is the only soap on British television that really counts.
