Press the menu button and the big white button together for about 5-6 seconds. It will then switch off and after 2-3 seconds the apple sign will pop up and you'll be able to carry on as normal. Happens to mine occasionally but this way always works.

Has it got a little pin hole?

My MP3 has one - I use a pin or paperclip to reset it when mine locks up

Nearly right! You need to toggle the 'hold' switch ontop on and off first to reset the iPod properly.

Also post in the portable devices forum next time

Well I would suggest you open it,remove any batteries & in
five minutes put batteries back hopefully all will be O.K----
I was just wondering--do you have batteries in your Ipod?

No you haven't but it looks as though I am sorry.

That's what you get when you sneek and do a bit of surfing when you should be working through a DIY list prepared by your other half!

Edit: no I'm not after all the OP started this off in the General Discussion forum and that's where it was when I replied, it's been moved here!

My mini does it all the time - and sometimes the volume function of the wheel just stops working - even though the wheel works for everything else. It also crashes - so i do the reset thing and then it just skips all the songs ive downloaded from iTunes! Does this happen to anyone else?

er.

I've never needed to toggle the 'hold' switch, first.

I guess it varies between iPod types, you do for the nano, the OP didn't say what they have.

Yep, you can't get at the battery

I'm sure that the OP will have their iPod working if they have followed the advice given.
