Gor gawds sake HOW DARE ANYONE suggest Bruve be replaced, because it is what it is there is NO ONE ALIVE that could replace Bruce.

Frankly I am starting to wish Bruce had to take a coupleof weeks off at the start and see how bad it got with Norton, Barrowman or even the uber Ant and Dec. Cos maybe then all these whingers and moaners would realise how good Bruce is and how much more difficult presenting SCD is compared to any other of these shows.

When I went last year my seat was about 2 feet away from Bruce's 'joke man'!! All his one liners etc seem to be written down for him and as he does each bit of presenting comes back to the desk to wait for his next bit. He is actually VERY, VERY funny when being himself ..... he truly kept us amused all night with his off the cuff quips. Most of what he says on screen appears to scripted for him.

Also we should all remember he is 80!!! Yes maybe needs a rest - but don;t forget he REALLY believed in SCD from the off when a lot of other people didn't..... and for that he def gets my vote.

It's a pity about the "joke man", because normally I love Bruce. He was fantastic on Have I Got News for You. It really is only the jokes that worry me, so if only he would drop them. It's not a comedy show. Apart from the jokes I think he is the perfect presenter for this show, and it wouldn't have the same dignity with a different front man.

As I generally tape SCD due to work etc, I've gotta say my FF button gets a good work out through Brucie's bits, can't stand him on this. Must admit I can't come up with a good alternative off the top of my head, maybe John Barrowman, although I do remember him presenting on Going Live (or one of those Saturday morning BBC shows) and he was fairly dreadful then, may have improved since.

'Twas Live & Kicking. I wasn't a fan of him on that. He's an actor by trade. I'm not sure presenting is his strong suit.

Whingers and Moaners???????

Try people with opinions about an over rated, unfunny pensioner who thinks the show is all about him!!!!

Having seen the New Zealand version of Dancing With the Stars, believe me, Bruce Forsyth is a fantastic host.

to be honest i'd rather have graham norton he's quite funny, brucie's jokes are dated.

I too am not over keen, to see the return of Brucie, having witnessed his efforts on the recent, Dancing in the Street, I kept wanting to wind him up, he seemed to have terrible trouble reading the auto cue, But on the other hand I can't think of a suitable replacement.

He was a right Diva at DITS. Wasn't impressed.

I used to love watching the Generation Game (sometimes, mostly I wanted Gladiators!! But that's off topic) so I think he's just got worse in old age. Or maybe it is just the auto cue man. Because actually, the few times he's gone off scrip he's actually been alright.

That's what I think. Bad script more than bad Bruce.

Don't you think Bruce has a hand in writing the script though, as all presenters do?

I think Bruce Forsyth is the only presenter from his era of variety entertainment still working on TV. I'd love for them to get a new host in. I couldn't bare Brucie on DITS, complete turn off.

The show will still be a success without him, SCD is about more than just the host

I don't think all presenters have a hand in writing the script at all. They sometimes ask for things to be re-worded so they flow more naturally. But they have better things to do than write the words.

I'm convinced that Bruce doesn't write all the jokes he reads out. If he did, he wouldn't struggle to read them so much, as he would know what is coming. He constantly fluffs the jokes, which to me implies that they are not his own.

The trouble is, that even an old bat like me can remember watching Sunday Night at the London Palladium when I was a tennager. He's an institution isn't he? But I have to say, that his hogging the limelight at every chance he gets is getting a bit stale with me. Some of his antics make me cringe. Dick Van Dyke is another one.

Although even I could be convinced that Dick van Dyke might make a better SCD host than Bruce...

Presenting the SCD programme is not rocket science and there are dozens of personalities who could do it with their eyes closed. Terry Wogan and Angela Rippon ( who has a good knowledge of ballroom dancing) would have no problems. Okay, they are no youngsters, but they are much younger than Brucie. The fact is that Forsythe is his own worst enemy as he antagonises many viewers with his aura of self importance and his infantile 'jokes'. Not to mention his weekly shuffle which, he seems to believe, makes him some sort of a ballroom dancer when, in fact, what he knows about ballroom dancing can probably be written on the back of a postage stamp. His redeeming feature is that he genuinely seems to enjoy encouraging and promoting ballroom and latin dancing and, for that, he deserves every credit.

Come on! Who doesn't laugh when Bruce says to every couple, "You're my favourites"?

Golden!

He has probably forgotten he has said it to everyone else!
No, I dont mind him -Terry Wogan would be quite good but he would probably take the mick a lot more than Bruce!

Terry Wogan is best saved for Eurovision.

We can't have him doing all the "glitter and glam" shows, can we?

I can quite categorically say I would never miss them if they were gone. In fact, I long for it.

Also, I don't chuckle when Bruce says you're my favourites to every couple, I cringe!!!

Reading through this thread I have noticed quite a few pros and cons about Bruce, but when you think about it Bruce has made SCD his own. Despite all the criticisims Bruce does do a good job, agreed his jokes are old but then again it is the scriptwriters.
Now think again. There are fourteen couples in this year's season so maybe there will be no time for Bruce to say much at all.
I am still looking forward to watching SCD even though the second show I will still be away on holiday.
