Maybe "Northern Bird" should have some speech training like her "Northern Bloke" husband

I laugh at nearly all his jokes...

Tess's accent really makes me cringe, going on about the 'cupples' and whatnot. Terrible!

Oh no, not this again! We already have a thread devoted to this. And it was the same last year

Don't read it then! It's not our fault he's got even worse!

I wasn't cringing but I noticed some of the female celebs squirming when he said he wanted to give them "private lessons" (and they say Graham Norton is smutty). I don't think Brucie ISN'T irreplaceable, the format of the show seels itself to a large degree...I think he is highly replaceable, but obviously must have something over the producers of the show. Wogan and even last year's contestant Gloria Hunniford would bring style, class and humour to the programme. Lionel Blair has some fancy footwork and, and what about even good old Michael Aspel.

And as i said this is the first year i have watched the show and therefore haven't read any previous threads so have no idea if you all talked about the same thing last time.

As you are new to BF and SCD I shall let the OP off, BUT I suggest you watch the show very closely and realise the seemless way the programme moves. That is not all down to a good diretor and a work experience cameraman you know.

how old is he now?

He was telling jokes

I've never found him funny, he bores me, but atleast I have someone to shout at on a Saturday now the F1 (and Alonso *Mumble* bloody idiot *mumble*) has drawn to a close (or at least after Brazil)...

Apparently he was born on 22 February 1928, so that makes him 78!

He's one of those old dinosaurs that should have put in the old folks home years ago.

Tess has an accent? Sorry, didn't notice - but then I have spent a lot of my life "Oop North" so to my ears she is accentless. Remember that accent is relative. Southern accents all the time also hacks of northeners, Scots, Welsh, Cornishmen, et., etc.

He mightn't be firing on all cylinders, but apart from Graham Norton I can't think of anyone that could do it better. I can't stand GH and imo LB would be even more cringeworthy, Wogan might be ok but wouldn't think he knows a lot about dancing.

Well said, metroace (in whatever accent you said it!) ~ nothing wrong with a northern accent.

I've watched it for the first time too and did find Brucie cringeworthy. There must be a song and dance-type man/woman who could do better? And does the presenter need to know about dancing to the extent Brucie does?

I also find Bruce Forsyth cringeworthy. He cant remember the contestants names.he tells terrible jokes, which only he is amused at and wastes valuble viewing time and if he tells one more couple they are his favorites I think I will throw something with great speed at the tv set, for goodness sake Bruce do the decent thing and retire gracefully and lets have Graham Norton at the helm.

Does any of those critising the prehistoric jokes and supposed fluffs actually realise the enormity of Bruce's job, it is not just standing there and muttering nonsense while the whole thing waits for him to finish. The timing has to be staggeringly accurate cameras, microphones and the most untrustworthy of all, people have to be in the right place at the right time to stop it all looking like a junior school video project.

Heck the fact that everyone moans about Bruce's old jokes is an indication that no one notices any errors with the wonky camera work or mikes not working. Has any of the ultra critical considered one of the major reasons why this is the case? Because Bruce Forsyth was presenting live tv before most of us were on solid foods. Has anyone noticed that unlike the likes of Davina or Graham Norton how little he refers to cards and certainly never when he is direct to camera. Does anyone not think he rushes some judges is beacuse HE has someone screaming in his ear to do so and likewise he can add a quip or two later (so old they should be on Antiques Roadshow) cos no one realises how fast HE can get things back on track.

FFS he's 78 he has earned more than enough money to keep him in golf balls and nausea inducing sweaters and the BBC being quite so hip and trendy as it is, they would have quietly pushed him to the sidelines two years ago IF they didn't KNOW there is no one around who can do the same job as he does.

And sorry if you want to see just how hard a job SCD is just take a look at Tess who still looks like a frightened rabbit whenever she has anything to say.

Heck as I say, the fact so many moan about Bruce rather than dodgy timings in cameras etc should tell everyone what a job BF does.”

I've never seen dodgy camera work or mic' not working. There's always a blip or two with live tv. It's not just SCD which has blips....

At least other live programmes don't have a Blip for a compere!!

How about Angela Rippon? She can read an autocue, great knowledge of ballroom and has a sense of humour

Put Bruno in Bruce's place, you wouldn't understand a bliming word he said, but the metaphors or atleast the general Bruno jumping around trying to make up a metaphor would be worth watching....

you would say that is because the production is so well rehearsed/professional, I would point out that any problems off camera could be disguised by a joke considered old at the Battle of Hastings.

On the joke ancestry I would point out that SCD being on BBC tv at 7 p.m. on a Saturday night does mean that certain modern up to date jokes are wholly inappropriate for broadcasting on the show.

Personally I am begining to wish Brucie could be unavoidably detained one week, not likely as he is far too much of a pro, BUT then the Brucie bashers could see one of their favoured replacements floundering and end up screaming for their mummy live on tv.

Brucie is a joke and extremely annoying. He does let down an otherwise excellent show which I love. I can't think who would be best to replace him, but that doesn't mean there isn't anyone. If he keeled over the beeb would find someone else soon enough - none of us are indispensible.

I think the problem is they would want an all round entertainer and in his day that's what Brucie was.

Wouldn't really want GN as he's a bit over done now.
