Sort of started on someone elses post which is a bit unfair

So, I have the following "simple" questions about using Sipgate and handsets.

I only want to use a USB type phone with Sipgate and not spend a fortune. Most USB phones say they are SIP compatable so if I buy a USB phone how do I know it will work with X-Lite ? Like this one

http://www.net-phones.net/proddetail.php?prod=pkigrey

How do I configure this phone because if its too complicated then I will just go for Skype which would be a shame ? Or will it just work and does the X-Lite software know the USB phone is attached ?

OK , got a reply from Sipgate support explaining how to set up for a USB phone in the X-Lite menu. Wish thay had put that on the website.

Sipgate also has had an interesting effect on my PC which now grinds to a halt for long periods. Have just reduced the softphone to the quick start bar at the bottom and its freed the PC up...mmmm

Not sure gaz. It seems to lock the browser window. If I reduce the softphone to the quick start bar by hitting the X the X-lite webpage opens !!!!!! If I close this down the browser goes blank and locks up. If I open another window (I use Mozilla Firefox) all is OK...weird.

Having said that I have just bought two USB phones from PC World plugged them in and everything works...impressive

Sipgate is the SIP service, X-Lite from X-Ten is the software.

Its not bad function wise. The phones I bought were VoIP Cyberphone -W (V654SK) Just plugged them in, XP said "hello whats this?" and installed them with me doing noting else. Went to the Softphone menu and there they were, selcedted default and...sorted. Very pleased that is easier than the web sites give the impression and thanks to advice here of course.

SJphone is often better than xlite.

Use it on my wifi PDA.
Before that I used a 99 pence headset.

AM curious. Does a USB phone have an analogue to digital converter in, so that it can send the data through the USB connection?

Have you set the software phone (whichever one you are using) to use the USB soundcard (phone) you have attached for the ring device.

How do I integrate my handset with X-Lite so I can use the keypad and X-Lite pops up when I lift the handset...like it does with Skype?

The software you're after is X-TenMate, available from here. The software will allow you to use the call start/end and number buttons on your handset. It will not allow you to scroll through contact books or other 'extra' features.

This phone appears to be the same as the one available from Tesco, currently only £9.97 and not the £19.97 I paid, humbug. I can confirm from personal experience that the Tesco handset works with X-lite, sipgate and X-TenMate. There's no need to use the Tesco disc that comes with the handset if you don't want to. Just plug the phone into a Windows XP machine and it will be automatically recognised as a USB audio device. The handset also works under Ubuntu, if I recall correctly.

In the txt file it says that a bug fix has cured that ! Perhaps check for the latest level.

Slightly confused as I have downloaded X-ten but what does it do as if I click on icon nothing happens ? Have I missed something?

The details of the bug fixes history is in the txt file that is there when you unpack the .rar file. This is the line in that I am refering to

13.05.2006 Version: 1.0.0.29 beta
Bugfix: The phone ring can't stop if the caller hang up the call.

I have hit the .exe file and a x-tenmate icon is on my desktop and I have a red "handset off cradle" icon in my quick start menu which tells me "cant find usb phone" when I pass my mouse over it. But still nothing...any ideas ?
