There is also another way and you can use the official Windows Live Messenger but it's like Web-Messenger.

Just go to http://mobile.live.com on your mobile, go to Messenger and sign in. Simple as that I would believe.

Out of all these services, which ones do people find that consume the least amount of data?

I had a Orange SPC C500 and C550 and they already had the MSN software on there. But My new phone Sony Ericsson K800i has it also, I have to log onto the Orangeworld and there is an option for MSN/Google and also Yahoo instant messenger.

You can download WML here.

I tried it and it seems to work, but it cost me 40p to send and receive two words.
I presume signing in took most of the cost?

That looked pretty cool. Downloaded and tried it.. but none of my contacts downloaded successfully and it took a whole 21kb to simply sign in.

I tired sending a MSN message to my mobile phone but nothing happened

I had to switch off the proxy before it would let me sign in.
I just found this:

Messenger services on mobiles are a bit of a triumph of marketing over product.

They have been available for many years and are only really useful if you have a qwerty keyboard to be able to keep up with conversation. I've tried using MSN and Yahoo using both Agile and Windows Live Mobile Messenger on a Nokia N Series and its torture tapping away at the keypad. It sounds like a great idea and I dare say younger folks might find it attractive but like videocalling it suffers from handset limitations and practicality of use.

3 are giving MSN away now on contracts and some pre-pay models (its handset dependnt) but I'm guessing they know that most users wont be bothered with it and those that do are capped by a 200 message a day limit which will hobble many youngsters who can send that number in less than an hour!

Best bet for Messenger services might be T-Mobile's Web'N'Walk Plus with one of their MDA devices on Flext.

Does it apply to the Talk and Text 200 package or is this for certain ones only?

Ah ok, just wondering if I'd get any hidden charges from logging in! Do you have to re-add your contacts as well because it seems all mine are offline...

it dose that some times but if you turn phone off and log back on it should sort it. if you have not got contacts in your list go my status and you can tick boxes to say if contacts are on line and when they come online

Still none appear. People can see me and talk to me, but they appear offline in the convo's section but I can at least speak to those who chat to me.

'Tis annoying

Three refuse to help me because it's my Dads old phone, so I'm back to square one.

Still no contacts, anyone else had these problems?

it sounds like your phone in broke if its still playing up i would get your dad to phone up say he gave you the phone and then 3 will help or you can get a new contract or pay as you go phone with msn
