The prices drop on a constant basis.

Just look at the 5GB iPod - it cost £349 when it came out!

I'm certain that the software will be available on all new 5G iPods. The search function....scroll letter facility will almost certainly be available as a download soon enough for current iPods. (also gapless playback)

I don't think the gapless/search/games stuff is. I am pretty sure it was only for new ones

Zune, what a shambles that device is going to be - have you seen it? Fat and clunky. Plus its WMA, yuck.

Games was confirmed in the keynote as DEFINATELY being downloaded onto ALL 5G iPods. So i'm certain any software on the new ones will be downloadable.

But NO Search feature.

That is only on the new iPods so far.

Using the software is like a dream. Much faster and they have made tweaks across the board.
Games work better than you would expect, the controls are good and the graphics/performance is excellent.

Oh cool.
Zune a shambles what right do you have tto say that when you have not seen it. That could have been just a prototype they where testing on! Have you seen the PS3 dev kits? http://hdtv.engadget.com/2006/08/21/...t-has-arrived/ they look different. Those pictures were taken a good 5 months before the release of the thing. Also when the zune is focusing on Wi-Fi and the ipod focusing on blu-tooth I know who I will back!lol

That would have been a prototype, however testing with the FCC would require a similar sized product to be released in the end.

It's quite simply another Toshiba player with different Microsoft software that's incompatible with other Windows Media products and services.

Yeah but if you look at this

and this:

I think the first looks the same size as the ipod and I think is what the zune will be like. But the second I think is not a true rep of the zune.

Apple needs competition just like any company does, what amazes me is that none of these so called competitors has put to together a total solution that rivals it in the eyes of the public. Creative make some good looking players but they don't have an iTunes, they don't have that combined selling point. Instead all we get is a constant stream of players which have to use Microsoft based stores, these stores are all basically the same, they just spend lots of money coming up with stupid names - URGE anyone?

Apple probably won't license any third party manufacturers to produce devices that can play iTMS files. But that aside, is there a single Mac-compatible personal player that can play non-DRM AAC files? It's not an iPod killer if Apple users can't use it, is it?
