i owe BT for my home phone from last year because i got messed around trying to change from monthly Direct Debits to the pay quarterly.
do i have to pay it back before i use another provider as i want to use carphone talk talk as you dont have to pay BT at all then as they dont deserve to be paid.

I doubt you'll need to pay it back before using another provider but you will need to pay it back at some stage otherwise they'll transfer the outstanding amount to a debt collection agency - then it gets expensive!

Surely they're only charging you for the time that you were with BT therefore it is only right that you cough up!

Isn't, "I got messed around trying to change from monthly Direct Debits to the pay quarterly" a euphamism for "I got into debt when I made a mess of changing from monthly Direct Debits to the pay quarterly"?

In which case, try changing. You've nothing to lose.

BTW, perhaps you'll save a few pence on line rental but you risk far more (see HERE and HERE).
