Most Irritating Christmas No 1 ?
EddyBee

A survey by HMV has found that Mr. Blobby's 1993 hit, 'Mr.Blobby', to be the most irritating Christmas number one ever closely followed by St.Winifred's School Choir and Cliff Richard's 'Mistletoe and Wine'! That line-up gets my vote. Yours?

What on earth is that Mr Blobby thing all about. I wasnt living in England in 1993 and so have no idea how a pink man with yellow spots was the Xmas number one. Can someone please explain this to me.

Well it was a horrible song, consisting largely of grunts and groans, sang by that 'pink man with yellow spots' about himself!
Difficult to describe but very popular at the time would you believe.

Thanks for the info. Seems such a shame I missed that one.

What is wrong with people that at Xmas all their musical taste goes out the window? I blame the drink myself.

Even before I read the thread Mr Blobby came into my mind imemdiately as THE worst Xmas number one ever.

In my opinion, it would have to be 'Mistletoe & Wine' by Sir Cliff. What mawkish, sentimental, unadulterated rubbish.

Closely followed by that f@#king Slade song purely because I've heard it 300 times every December since I was three...

Mr Blobby was as the time very pouplar due to his appearance on the Saturday evening show "Noel Edmond's house party".

Shame I missed that as well I reckon. I reckon I was better off out the country if that was the standard of tv and music at the time.

If people will make Girls Aloud / One True Voice / Cheeky Girls number one this Christmas then making Mr Blobby number one all those years ago actually seems a good choice

Let us hope that neither Jonny Regan or Kate Lawler release a single in time for Christmas

Well he still hung around TV for many years after that. After the house partuy finished in 1997, he moved on to Live and Kicking and he was also on The Genration Game until it finished earlier this year. However,t he quality of music wasn't usually like that, that was a novelty record, but it was just very pouplar with a lot of people.

It's definately Chrimbo that gets people buying these hideous records. The last 10 years have seen Christmas hits by Blobby, Teletubbies, dancing Hamsters, Bob The Builder and some bloke asking us to suck on his Chocolate Salty Balls!
