Totally agree !!! How stupid to have bookies favourites before they dance. What they are really saying is that they are favourites in order of 'celebrity popularity'. Ridiculous. Let them dance and then decide .............. may be a few surprises!

I agree that is really silly, before even seeing them dance, the bookies have put odds on that is just stupid.

Oh well 17 days

If we think the bookies' opinions are stupid, surely this is an opportunity to make lots of money. Stick a big bet on the one you think they have got wrong.

Haha! Youre right! Bookies dont exactly make their money by making silly odds do they?
I think it is done on celebrity popularity - but I also think its done on other things too - like youth, stamina etc
(well, as perceived by the bookies)
I mean -lots of people already think Jimmy will be out first but due to the supposed 'comedy factor' he may well not be -and the bookies table reflects that.............they know more about it than we do!

I never bother looking at the bookies odds, out of interest where is Anton?

As a matter of interest, I've searched through the old forums to see what the odds were on the previous series. Both sets of odds were set before the shows had actually started. And it illustrates how wrong the bookies can be!

Odds for series 3 - 27/9/05 (before show started)
5/1 Zoe Ball
11/2 Jaye Jacobs
11/2 Patsy Palmer
6/1 Colin Jackson
6/1 Fiona Philips
7/1 James Martin
10/1 Siobhan Hayes
12/1 Will Thorp
12/1 Darren Gough
12/1 Gloria Hunniford
14/1 Dennis Taylor
20/1 Bill Turnbull

Odds for series 2 - 20/10/04 (before show started)
9/2 Carol Vorderman
5/1 Sarah Manners
5/1 Jill Halfpenny
7/2 Denise
8/1 Roger Black
10/1 Julian Clary
12/1 Diarmuid Gavin
14/1 Aled Jones
20/1 Esther Rantzen
20/1 Quentin Willson

“Emma Bunton 11 - 4
Louisa Lytton 4 - 1
Claire King 13 - 2
Ray Fearon 7 - 1
DJ Spoony 8 - 1
Matt Dawson 9 - 1
Carol Smillie 10 - 1
Mark Ramprakash 12 - 1
Jan Ravens 12 - 1
Jimmy Tarbuck 14 - 1
Georgina Bouzova 14 - 1
Nicholas Owen 16 - 1
Mica Paris 22 - 1
Peter Schmeichel 22 - 1”

I'd agree with the favourite, popularity of both the professional and the celeb will be high, she's had dance training and is a performer.
If Georgina Bouzouva starts off good, gets a good following she could be one to watch but these Casualty/Holby City unknowns haven't really done that well. Plus her partner is new.
I have a feeling Schmeichal will be clumpy, lumpy and stompy. He's a large guy

The bookies odds will factor in the professional dancers popularity much more so than earlier years. Disappointed to see Mark R so low. With Karen he could do well.

From the BBC website
Quote:
“Bouzova is a quick learner, however, and has a degree in law to prove it. She speaks six languages and lists among her interests kick boxing, yoga, ice skating, roller blading, tennis, tai-chi and horse riding, so she must be fit as well as intelligent. 'I'm throwing myself in at the deep end with the dancing,' she says, 'but that's the best way to learn, and I've got a good teacher. James [Jordan, her partner] says that it's a good way of improving your posture, and I'm also looking forward to being able to get out on the dance floor and impress the boys.'”

Sounds very promising. Many professional dancers have ice skating in their background. She sounds dedicated and hard working as well as artistic. I don't know much about James Jordan other than I think he has something to do with that banker Monica Wong and her $8 million dance lessons. He might be her new teacher.

Yeah, I think Georgina may well be good-she seems like a quite determined lady anyway!
I also agree that Mark may well do better than predicted -Karens routines are always great!
