Up in the UK from 178,000 in 2001 to over 1 million today!!

Vinyl singles are making a comeback, with sales pushing past the one million mark for the first time in eight years.

The increase has been attributed to the growing number of teenagers buying seven-inches.

Plus apparently it has a far wider sound spectrum compared to CD which cuts off at each end of it to keep quality high and hold more data....

I love vinyl and when my favourite bands bring out a new album I still buy the album and singles in every format available. I love it when the mint vinyl first slips out of the dust cover and I love the way it shines. I don't play vinyl anymore although I have some beauties and would love play them all just the once to listen to that depth and clarity but would need to listen to them on a top quality sound system (which I can't afford)
one of these days!

Slightly O/T but how much does an album on vinyl cost where you are?

I saw the new Kasabian album, it is a double LP, on sale in a local music store and it was a whopping £19.99!!

Most places are the same, really. New albums on double vinyl tend to be between £13 and £20.

However, a lot of old music which has been reissued on vinyl the past few years, specifically a lot of old rock, funk and rap, has come down in price. You used to pay £15 odd 5-10 years ago but now you can get a lot of stuff for a tenner.

I've always bought vinyl, personally, but then a lot of the music i like is single based so that's just the way it's always been for me but, i must admit, i haven't bought much in the past few months.

Every time i've been in HMV or Virgin recently i've noticed their 7" racks are flooded with product. I'd imagine websites like Juno and DustyGroove which deal in every type of "dance" music from old funk to electro to old soul to techno to rap to house to old jazz to jungle to old disco and have a substantial worldwide clientele are responsible for a good portion of vinyl sales rocketing.
