I-tunes new version won't transfer files

I have just downloaded the new version of I-tunes and when I try and drag and drop an mp3 into the I-pod folder it looks like it's copying but doesn't appear there and the number of files doesn't increase. I have still 8 Gig left....

Any reasons why this won't work, it seemed fine on all previous versions, I manually add rather than sync'ing ?

Well I have just gone back to my original I-Tunes 3.xxx with my I-Pod and it transfer files fine ! Although if I want to download podcasts I am instructed to upgrade to 7.0...... seems like Apple are trying to stop us uploading music that's not from their store or extracted using their encoding that you can only use with I-Pods..... surely this is an abuse of competition ? Has anyone else experienced the above.

iTunes 3?! Did you not use 4, 5 or 6 before? What iPod folder? Do you mean the iPod icon within iTunes on the left hand side? If so, have you made sure your settings for the iPod are set to manual? Do you have the appropriate firmware for your iPod?

Seeing as iTunes 3 wouldn't support many iPod models, I cannot recommend it.

Apple has not decided to block you using your own music, there would be absolutely no reason for them to do that. It's a major selling point of the product.

iTunes 7 has got several bugs. I expect that iTunes 7.0.1 will be out soon (a week or two). In recent times (last September and October) they released a .0.1 update pretty quickly.

Having some problems with iTunes 7 + iPod Shuffle. Some songs are lost during transfer, and yes I've made sure they are all AAC.

Also, updated the firmware on my Shuffle the other day, and songs go missing on it. If i turn it off and back on they come back.

Weird.

Sorry, I should explain a little better. My I-pod came with I tunes 3.0 on CD. I used that initially 18 months ago and have updated online with every new version that has come along. I updated from version 6 to version 7 this week and am unable to drag or copy an mp3 from my computer to the itunes window as I have always done. As you cannot download previous versions online I have had to go back to my CD version which is Version 3. and it works fine.

Any ideas on why I cannot drag mp3s into Version 7 ?
