I have heard all of 'Sams Town' and I have to say it takes a few listens to fully appreciate it but what can I say - absolutely amazing..
It goes from the atmospheric 'bling(cofessions of a king)' to the happy franz ferdinand sounding 'bones'. there is some really catchy synths throughout too. My favourite track of the album is the opener 'sams town' - which will sound great live. Even better than Hot Fuss, in my opinion - Go Buy it ![]() Steve. |

It got 4/5 in Q magazine, 2/5 in Rolling Stone, 5/5 in Nuts or Zoo I can't remember.
Does anyone know if it's been reviewed in the NME yet? It's the best album I've heard in a long time. |

Amazon.co.uk Review
Sam's Town is a tremendous departure for the Killers. Whereas their first album, Hot Fuss, was the work of Anglophiles trying to sound like their musical heroes, particularly Pulp and the Smiths, their second album has set its sights much higher. The Killers are clearly not content with their indie-rock status; from the explosive introduction of the title track, Sam's Town sounds huge. But, thanks to the earnest vocals of frontman Brandon Flowers, and lyrics still rooted very much in the real world, Sam's Town still manages to sound completely heartfelt and honest. In that respect, the Killers show themselves as potential heirs to U2, with an album packed with soaring guitars and driving basslines. First single, "When You Were Young", is a fist-pumping anthem that has all the catchy bombast of Bruce Springsteen's 1980's commercial heydey. Best of all though is "Bones", a song whose crooning chorus and bright horn breaks could only have come from the Killers' hometown of Las Vegas. Hot Fuss may have launched the Killers onto the global stage, but Sam's Town looks set to launch them into orbit. --Ted Kord I agree with all of it, apart from that 'bones' is not the best track, 'Read my mind' is! ![]() Loving the album, even better than hot fuss, this band might just be one of my all time favourites. |

I have the album, it's ok but personally I don't think it's better than Hot Fuss which was with out a doubt an excellent album. Shame they changed their style but for me I liked their old style much better.
My favorite songs on the album: Sam's Town (Track 1) When You Were Young (Track 3) Read My Mind (Track 6) Dan. Last edited by Sav5 : 30-09-2006 at 19:23. |

i beat a hasty path to the ITMS this morning - have been looking forward to it more than i can remember looking forward to an album for years.
the tracks that stand out from a first listen are : bling read my mind this river is wild but certainly sounds a solid album that will probably take a few listens. Iain |

I'm a bit unsure. I've only heard When You Were Young but I didnt think much of it - and I loved the style of Hot Fuss so the fact that they've changed... that doesnt bode well for the new album.

I think it's as good as Hot Fuss, no better but definately as good and that's on first listen. I'm sure it'll get better the more I hear it. I like Sam's Town, When You Were Young, For Reasons Unknown and Bones the best although that may change the more I listen to it.

It's not as 'immediate' as Hot Fuss, that album blew me away on first listen. But after a few listens it's an amazing album and i'd probably say is just as good as it's predecessor.
Can't wait to see them in November. |

I love this album.
It feels more substantial and better put-together than Hot Fuss - which was a bit hit and miss for me. Definitely requies a few listens though. Apart from 'When You Were Young', the tracks that stood out for me after a couple of listens were 'Read My Mind' and 'The River is Wild'. Brandon Flowers vocals are amazing and the whole album just makes me feel kind of sad, but in a good way.

Haven't listened to it yet but I was in HMV yesterday and they played a track called "For Reasons Unknown", which made me run over and buy it - I was very impressed.

Read my mind reminds me of All these things that I've done.
Good album but Hot Fuss is currently the better one, although that may change in a few days. |
