I think every country should have an award like The Mercury Prize. Canada have just had one for the first time called The Polaris Prize. This was the short list:

Broken Social Scene - 'Broken Social Scene'
Cadence Weapon - 'Breaking Kayfabe'
The Deadly Snakes - 'Porcella'
Final Fantasy - 'He Poos Clouds'
Sarah Harmer - 'I'm a Mountain'
K'NAAN - 'The Dusty Foot Philosopher'
Malajube - 'Trompe L'oeil'
Metric - 'Live It Out'
The New Pornographers - 'Twin Cinema'
Wolf Parade - 'Apologies to the Queen Mary'

...and the winner was...Final Fantasy - 'He Poos Clouds'. I'm quite happy with that, it's a very good album after you've given it about 5 listens ....although I would have preferred Wolf Parade to win as I absolutely love their album.

I prefer that list to this year's Mercury Prize and I think next year it could be even better....Canada is HOT at the moment .
