Has anyone heard the new Marti Pellow album, Moonlight Over Memphis yet, I heard a 5 track sampler and I was really impressed. It sounded really soulful with quality songs is the rest of the album as good?

I think Marti Pellow has great potential to be a big solo star. If it wasn't for his drinking and drugs problem over the last 10 years, we could have heard so much more from him.
I can't wait to hear his new album. When is it released?
Did anyone get the Wet Wet Wet CD Volume 1 in the Mail on Sunday? It was fab. Volume 2 is in the Mail this Sunday.

Played Popped In Souled Out last week. What a glorous album that is. They were very unfairly written off as a kind of boy band at the time. Great great pop.

I don't remember them being written off back then. They were written off around the time of 'Love is All Around'.

Marti has one of the best voices to emerge in the past 20 years and is such a great performer too. Certainly the best singer of his generation in his genre.

Sorry - 'written off' was a clunky phrase on my part. 'Dismissed as' may have been a better term. I was driving at the fact that they weren't taken as seriously as their music merited (in my opinion)

I listen to rock music, and would consider myself to be a bit of a metaller... but oh, I adore Marti. Wet Wet Wet were my favourite band as a child and I still listen to Popped In Souled Out now and again. Marti's voice is terrific- he's touring in November and as soon as I convince someone to go with me I will be getting tickets!

Oh I didn't know about this. I have always loved his voice. Must try to get a listen. I also didn't know he was touring, so will need to investigate that too.

I thought I was alone in my worship of Mr Pellow - saw WWW support Lionel Richie many moons ago - must have been 85/86 and just knew he was going to be a major star.
Have seen him several times live and he really is excellent - as I am a girl I can't help but notice he is a very good looking man but when he opens his mouth as well I just melt - a huge talent that I feel has been overlooked overthe years!

Definitely. I adore his voice, even my Dad used to say how good he was, which is high praise indeed.

I'm 26, and have loved him since I was 7. My bedroom was covered in posters of the Wets, and I listened to Angel Eyes, Wishing I Was Lucky, and Temptation endlessly.

I'm not a massive fan of his post-WWW stuff but he does have a very nice, soulful voice.

His being gorgeous and a thoroughly decent bloke doesn't hurt either. He used to come into the cafe I worked at on a regular basis when he was recording in Sussex, and was never anything less than 100% polite and friendly. If I hadn't liked him before that would have done it for sure.

I got Marti's album earlier this week - all I can say is that's it's absolutely amazing !!!!!!!

Been a fan of Marti & the Wets for a while but this is Marti at his soulful finest. Even Marti himself says it is his best album yet and he has every right to be proud of it, you can tell he has put everything into it. So much feeling & emotion, he even helped finance it himself, pulling in many of the musicians that worked on Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" album. Willie Mitchell helped produced it & co-wrote some of the tracks, along with Marti & Chris Difford (from Squeeze fame), a very successful combination IMO & of course it had to be recorded at Willie's Royal Studios in Memphis.

There are a few up-tempo tracks on it, but it is mainly ballads, which best suits the soulful style. Some tracks even bring in the gospel side of Memphis, they are haunting and the words have such meaning. This really is true soul music.

If you ain't heard the album yet, do make a point of looking it up, it's worth it.

Can't wait till his tour starts at the end of this month !
