At the moment I'm with vodafone, but I want to put other networks on my phone.

When I look at the networks I can get on the phone it has the four (O2(TBcellnet), Orange, One2One).

So how can I connect to the networks, do I just register on the networks web site or do I contact vodafone first..... Also I want to keep the number I have at present.

please advise.

if you want to use another network instad of vodafone, and u want to keep your number, i know that the carphonewarehouse can do it for you, just pop in to your local branch and tell them you want to swop networks.

I does not matter if you are PAYT or contract...

Hope this helps

Ring Vodafone customer services and ask them how to transfer your number to another provider. Then see what happens. It's cool.

Oh, make sure you have all the tarrifs of other providers in front of you when you ring.

ok, went to carphonewarehouse..... I was told it can't be done with the phone I have because it's from Vodafone.

I have sent Vodafone an e-mail because I was sick of pressing 1,2,3,4 and so on..... bet I don't hear from them.

Anyway I might get a new phone from Carphonewarehouse.

Also is this common to block other networks, are vodafone breaking any law?

Woah, woah, woah.

You say you 'want to put other networks on your phone'. I'm not really sure what you mean by this. The phone (well, the SIM actually) can only be registered with one network at a time. This is just the way the GSM system works.

If you mean that it costs you more to phone other networks than it does to call other vodafones, then I'm afraid that's just part and parcel of how mobile contracts work. All service providers charge more for cross-network calls, although OFTEL are trying to change this. In response to this, the networks have all introduced tariffs whereby calls to other networks are included in the monthly 'inclusive minutes'. These do tend to be more expensive than other deals though, so it may be false economy.

Also, I'm not really sure what you mean by Vodafone 'blocking other networks'. As far as I know, Vodafone phones (and O2) are unblocked, so that you can buy a PayG SIM from any network and just slot it in. With Orange and T-Mobile, you have to get the phone unblocked first before it'll accept other network's SIM's, which is a hassle.

Vodafone dont tend to block their phones and thus they will work on any network. Ornage and t-Mobile def lock their phonbes to theri network only - You can have this bar removed for a fee of about £35 or you can go down Tottenham Court Road and have it doen for a tenner

or you could invest in a data cable (about £5 for a computer fair) and do it yourself.

Well the way i read that is, you have done a Manual Scan for networks, and have picked up the other 3 networks, and you want to connect to there network instead of Voda's? Like if you were roaming? But it comes up "No Access" or somthing along those lines? Thats because Voda will not have a roaming agreement with 02 (UK), T-Mobile (UK) or Orange. So you not allowed on their network, without a simcard from them. The only way you could get which ever network you wished from 1 handset would be to have a phone on a forigen network, and then be roaming in the UK, which would cost bomb.

It's no hassle at all.As the above poster points out a data cable is inexpensive and the easily available software means it takes just a few seconds to unlock the handset.I would certainly recomend it.

thanks for all the help.

If and when I get the cable does that mean I would be able to upload ring tones from my computer?

Sony J6 (hard to find ring tones)

I thought number portability was a lot easier now, theres no reason for Vodaphone to block you from porting your number elsewhere. Although do bear in mind if you port to, say O2, and another subscriber on O2 calls you they are likely to be charged for a cross network call as ported numbers are often charged as though they still belong to the issuing provider even though they are technically on the same network.

Sorry to put this in here, but I can't post myself yet!
I have a Sonyericsson T300 mobile and a blueyonder broadband internet connection. Does anyone Know how to set the phone up to send and receive emails? I think I've done it correctly but it says server not found. Telewest think it's possible but don't know how to do it.

if it's anything like the t68, you need to put the IP of the mailserver in, not the address.
