Power saving
This seems to come up now and again in the forums, some of us leave things on standby some don't. I read somewhere that a sky box only uses 1 watt less on standby. However if this link has been posted before I apologise but it was news to me.
http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/...266159,00.html Edit. Just thought, if you cannot switch to standby will many people leave things on permanent. Last edited by aluk : 21-09-2006 at 19:28. |

Yeah when a SKY box is instandby the only thing that isn't active is the video stage since the tuner is always looking for OS and EPG updates which can arrive at anytime although mostly in the downtime over night.
If we are talkign about saving some electricity then ban council xmas decorations, the juice they must suck up nationwide must be mind boggling

I was surprised that my new TV states on it that it only uses 5W in standby - so I guess it can be done if the makers can be arsed.

If tvs and such are made not to go into standby then the remote wont be able to be used to turn em on or off ?

Does that mean we might actually have to get off our fat arses occasionally? I hardly ever use the standby function on my TV. I watch what I want to watch and then switch it off. ![]() Quote:

It does explain why my Sky+ box is always warm and sometimes the fan comes on even though I haven’t turned it on for ages. What a crap design. |

Beds are for sleeping in, shagging in or reading the newspapers. And the middle of those three is a distant memory.
