The American Apprentice
Why has the American Apprentice been put on BBC2 so late at nearly 11.30pm, last year they put it on BBC3 AT 8pm then repeated it on bb2 later, but this year no bbc3 why not?
I know its not everyones cup of tea but I love it and thank god for sky + as it was the serious link that let me know the second showing the following night was not a repeat but a new episode. |

Because they have to promote their own version, which is understandable.

I am a bit miffed at that too, as I prefer the US version over the British.

Overall the US version is better. Trump is a LOT smarter than Sugar, and the contestants are smarter and more duplicitous, which makes for great TV. The only let down is the tasks, which are far more meaningful in the UK version. Most of the US tasks are marketing excercises which are little more than brand commercials. I think the UK tasks give a better idea of business savvy.
And for some reason they always seem to find a lot of very pretty female contestants on the US version. |

The US version seems to be about promoting Donald Trumps golf courses, hotels and other business ventures. The actual team tasks seem to last about 10 mins of the show. They don't seem to have all the swearing of the UK version mind you which I think is good.

The US version seems all style and no substance, as the previous poster pointed out the actual tasks are over in about 10 minutes or less and don't seem particualrly demanding to me. And then there are the contestants, who all look the same, huge enameled tomb stone teeth and enough makeup to make a corpse look fresh as a daisy..

As lightweight as it may seem, it is so much more enjoyable to watch.
The contestants are so much more entertaining to watch even though the tasks are poor. I am thankful that I have Sky+ series link. |

I looked up the winner on Wikipedia for this and beauty and the geek the other week, but I've totally forgotten them now ! I hope you're memory is as bad as mine sixtieschick.
The american contestants all seem interchangable. They are all backstabbing egomaniacs. |

I do prefer the US version. Alan Sugar isn't a guy I can warm too. The contestants and the tasks are just not exciting enough for me. The only thing I do like with the UK version is the unexpected winner. In past shows my choice of the winner has always been wrong.
Trump on the other hand, I don't know. He's got a spark about him. Every task is something new, something that hasn't been done before, something that impresses me. You get such a wide range of characters which you don't seem to get in the UK version also in the American version you get more 'bitchy' characters which makes it more entertaining. Trump also gives the winning team decent and out of the box prizes. I don't think the show deserves to be on so late. Especially if it's not on till 11.50pm. After Newsnight I'm all tired out. |

The Donald is absolute quality.I think it's a bit too commercial for the beeb - apparently they have to show the US one to do their own version - soz if someone else has pt any of this I'm frightflly drunk. I've seen all 5 US series and they are great - esp 5!!!

Didn't Sir Alan say in series 2 that he is big in property now, and his son runs an air charter business. What is the winner of Series 3 going to get to run? Tim was in charge of the electric face gizmo (a stylophone for ladies faces?) and Michelle was supposedly running Xenon Green ?! whatever thats about
I prefer the Trump too, he makes Sir Alan look like Del Boy Trotter .... this makes the UK winner Rodney! (just remembering Paul and his rant about homeless people being poor Big Issue salesmen shows what a load of plonkers we have here) Last edited by minimalistmatt : 23-09-2006 at 22:00. |

The candidates this series have been rubbish too. None of the ones who have been fired so far amount to much compared to the early boots of the UK series. What is good about the US series is the tasks. They have much bigger budgets, which helps. They are much more imaginative. For the UK series 2 virtually all of them were little more than sales exercises. Sales ability was all you needed to do well. |

I prefer the UK version to the US, though in saying that I do still enjoy watching it and do wish they had put it on earlier. Because of it's late time I have missed a few episodes, which is anoying, but not to the point of remembering to tape it, which I would definitely have done with the UK one.

I'm pretty much with brangdon. I love both the US and UK versions but in my mind they may as well be totally different shows. The US version is far more focused on the contestants hissy fits and the tasks seem to happen pretty much on their own. Trump seems pretty random on who he fires and rarely has a well balanced reason for his choice. But hearing Caroline get her claws in is a sight to behold - she is fabulous and cuts to the chase in an instant.
Im much more engaged with the UK show - I feel more for the contestants and I honesly think that Sir Alan tries to get behind the tasks and really understand who effed up worst. I like to see the steps behind the tasks and see how they are pulled together. Frankly I wish the episodes were 2 hours long to give a lot more insight behind what they are doing - or at least a weekly spin off giving some more context. |

He's bringing in his son and daughter to take over the roles of his two sidekicks. George is still there he hasn't been fired but he's not going to LA. Donald's ego is so big he ends up firing everyone around him including his wives.
