i get a dial tone cant make out going to calls the BT Hub phhone light is off this is so unrelibale

It seems to be going through phazes mine is now allowing outgoing calls again after an hour of just long beeps when dialing any numbers but still no incoming strange how sometimes when i check if i can call it sometimes the 1571 comes on after 2 rings (not this end tho) and other times it just continues to ring and then a couple of times ive had the other ringing tone like american networks a long continueous ringing rather than the 2 shorter ringtones we are used to here in the uk

It appears to be nothing to do with Hubs as some users here are reporting - I've got a Voyager 220v and the BBV light just continually flashes very rapidy and I have no VoIp service. Been this way since Saturday morning.
At first I thought it was my set up and I went through the routine of re-booting and restoring. Nothing was visible on the BT sites about any problems that I could find. Thank goodness for DS and the reporting here. Why doesn't BT report this sort of thing on their BB Talk website (they may but I couldn't find it)? It would save thousands of Help Desk calls. |

I just received a voicemail from BT telling me i need to contact BBV customer support to have my problem fixed yet my online fault tracking says the problem has been fixed to my satisfaction
erm i dont thinkso i still cant receive incoming calls on the bbv line if i wanted a 1571 service only then i would have just got that put on my ordinary line FREE |

I ring my Broadband Talk number at 4.15pm on my way home from work and it seemed to work fine. Five or 6mins ago my Broadband Talk light went off for 10 or 12 seconds then came back on again. Is the service still not 100% fixed.

Mine is still off.
The BBV light is on and I am getting a dialing tone however when I try to make an outgoing call it results in a dead tone. I had some service overnight where the calls were successfully connecting , however they were being disconnected after around 14mins and 50seconds, calls made through the softphone were disconnected after 2m20. I spoke to a member of the back office team last night who said that it should be resolved by today, however, trying it this afternoon and evening I see this is not the case and so the outage extends. I have bitten the bullet and signed up with Voip.co.uk and the service has been absolutely faultless. I called them after emailing them about their service and all questions were answered quickly and professionally with the advisor even talking me through setting up a test account to ensure compatibility. BT Broadband Talk = Useless Voip.co.uk = Seemingly Superb |

Depending on who you talk to in BT there have been regular outages for the 3 years of operation, regular being on average every month or two.
The current issue is due to a migration of people from old platforms to the SIP platform. Also, new customers are being allocated geographic numbers instead of the 05601 numbers which are not included in inclusive minutes, even with BT. If you already have a 05601 number the only way to get a geographical number is to cancel your contract, pay the penalty fee and then sign up again. |

Before BT launched Broadband Talk it was called Broadband Voice and used a different platform to connect the calls. I don't remember the platform name but any member of the back office team should be able to tell you.
The SIP protocol is the method that BT have now moved to for VoIP and is pretty much the industry standard for delivering such VoIP services. (The easiest way to look at it, or at least explain it, is as an Operating system I guess) They ran Broadband Voice for around 18 months on the old platform and have been using the SIP platform now for around 18 months giving them 3 years in the VoIP market. To standardise their network, all of the old Broadband Voice customers on their original transport have been moved onto the SIP platform, they obviously did not do enough research or invest enough in server capability before doing this or something along those lines and the increased volume of calls, users and/or numbers caused the server(s) BT use to run this service to collapse. Regarding your 05 number, you should be aware that there are people on certain telephone networks who will be unable to call that number. Also, people calling that number will be charged for calling you as not even BT include 05 numbers in their inclusive calls. I don't know how accurate this is but some of my friends have reported that they have been charged over 30p/min from their mobile to call it, so you might want to warn your friends to check the cost of calling it before you give them that number. As I said in a previous post, a member of the Broadband Back Office team have advised me that the only way to get a geographic number for Broadband Talk is to cancel the service, for which there is a penalty fee payable if you are within the 12 month contract, and then re-sign up for another year. |

BT charge calling 056 numbers at the g21 rate which is....
4.89p/min peak 2.00p/min off-peak 1.18p/min weekend ...according to their published price list, however the advisers will tell you that their "OWL" system gives them different rates. I have pointed this discrepancy out to a senior manager within BT who is going to look into it. The pricelist for Special Numbers is downloadable from http://www.downloads.bt.com/pricing/SpecialisedNos.pdf Regarding my own situation, I have negotiated early release from my 12 month Broadband Talk contract and from my BT Broadband contract together with enough compensation to cover a new router and my alternative VOIP provider (with hardware). I'm switching back to Eclipse (monthly contract) on their Evolution product (hopefully I won't suffer from the same routing problems which left me with downloads of 17kb/s that affected me before) on 9th October and continuing to use Voip.co.uk for Voip.
