Hello neighbour! <waves> You must be near me then
![]() It is a lovely building but it's a shame it killed off Baldock's smaller shops. I only seem to end up in that Tesco if I need to go to the health centre next door ![]() |

Our nearest Tesco is still on one floor. But considering its size, I doubt they'd need a second floor.

The Tesco store near where I live is on one floor only, but one or two members of staff have been telling me that they have heard that when the store gets it's refurbishment later this year, it will get another floor added.

Gosh, old thread. But a good one.
My local Tesco Extra is also a two floor job, with parking underneath. It seems to alienate quite a few shoppers including myself. My elderly parents hate those travelator things, I doubt they're alone. And due to the scale of the place, the walking distance from one end of the store to the other is obscene if you are in a rush or of poor health. Because of that and their accounting scandals I've voted with my feet and boycotted them for a long while, they have nothing to offer me at all that I can't get from Sainsbury's or Morrisons without having to walk the length of a football pitch just to grab a loaf of bread. But when I used to go frequently it was very rare to see older clientele in there. Whereas if you go to my old fashioned ground floor medium sized local Morrisons on pension day, it's rammed! Epic fail! |

I interred another Tesco thread for you, Tobias. Unfortunately it isn't in General Discussion.

The Falkirk Town Tesco seems as big as an Extra. But is only classed as being a standard superstore.
They have a Tesco Direct ordering and collection desk. I just wonder if they will eventually ditch the traditional physical non grocery and chemist departments like the clothing and electricals at standard superstores, and replace them with more groceries, so you would have to order clothing and electrical at Tesco via Tesco Direct and collect at the direct desk rather than taking a TV, laptop or coat off the shelf and paying them at the checkout. Those standard Tesco Superstores to be renamed as Tesco Extras. |

A few years ago they put an upstairs in our tesco, they built a big marquee at the side of the shop to house all the clothes and electricals in while they did the renovations. A couple of years later they took it all out again, removed the travelator and put a budget gym in instead. Apparently they could make more money renting the space to the gym than they could flogging clothes and tellies. Now the store is full of sweaty people in gym gear buying doughnuts and treats after their workout
