new order retro
iain
20-12-2002
any aging 30 odd yr olds (like myself) who grew up loving new order (bands don't come much better) might want to have a look at the *retro* box set thats just come out. (if you haven't seen it). 5 cds (6hrs) for £28....each cd themes as *pop*, *fan*, *club* and *live* (and a ltd edition 5th cd which includes a 17 min version of *elegia*)

there's still the odd track missing perhaps - *love vigilantes* - the greatest new order single that was never released for example. still, its a great collection, and well worth having if your a fan.

Thanks for the mini review.

I have put this on my Christmas wish list and I really hope now that I get it!

I bought it out of loyalty, but I don't think it's a great collection, even if all the songs are excellent. The second cd works as an album on its own, but the first and third cds are pretty jumbled. The fifth cd, bunged in at the last minute to make me worry about missing it, isn't very good either - a couple more fairly rubbish remixes, and a couple of tracks they didn't think were worth releasing before. It just made me wish I'd spent the money finally buying all the albums on cd instead - the tapes are all getting worn out.

It would have been cool if they had done a Substance 2002, having done another twelve singles since True Faith (leaving out the "Best of" rereleases):

Touched by the Hand of God, Blue Monday 88, Fine Time, Round & Round, Run2, Regret, World, Ruined in a Day, Spooky, Crystal, 60 Miles an Hour, Here to Stay

They could have included Let's Go and Brutal as well, if they were feeling generous.

If they were stuck for enough b-sides or decent remixes to fill a second cd, a compilation of the best of the side projects might have been interesting.
