My parents bless them are looking to get a new tv after the old one a Mitsubishi died shortly before they moved house and they have yet to replace it. To paint the scene, they have a space already set up for this in one room, in a built in cupboard that reaches floor to ceiling and has sliding doors.

The problem is that there isn't a massive amount of room inside this hole in the wall, simply because there are built in partitions in there. So they have an 85cms wide space, the maximum height is adjustable, for a TV, and I need to find them a telly to go in there.

I'm assuming that the maximum width of telly they will get in that space is around 32 inches, not allowing for those with speakers mounted on the sides. Also because of the size that it will have to be an LCD and not a Plasma, which might limit the choice a bit, although HD ready is a must I think.

Does anyone have any reccomendations as to what brand is better at this size. They really like Sony and would probably plump for that unapposed but if anyone has a better option/opinion........? I like the look of the Samsmug myself but I've never owned a LCD/Plasma so I don't know if they are any good.

It's not that silly a question!

There are lots of fans of the Samsungs here. You will get a great TV for less than the price of a Sony.

The Samsung R7 and N7 series have the speakers mounted below the TV, so the 32" screen measures 32" wide (803mm) which should just fit in your space!

Be aware of the minimum clearance around the TV to allow it not to overheat. My SONY needs a minimum of 10cm either side and 30cm clear over the top for cooling purposes, according to the manual.

That said it does not get that hot, just a bit hotter than a CRT TV.

I allowed a bit of space either side and I think the actual gap is something like 89cms, so 2cms might be a bit tight according to the manuals. That having been said it has to be easy to operate/understand as they are not amazingly technologically literate. I think a trip to Tottenham Court Road is in order, with my tape measure.......

Thanks for all the replies.
