Dolby Virtual surround sound
Hello All.
Has anybody come across a decent two (plus woofer) speaker surround sound kit? My new lounge is a distinctly 5.1 unfriendly shape and the only way i can think to get my surround sound back is to play with one of these new spatial surround sound doo-hicky's ![]() Come across one from Kef and one from Denon but they seem to all cost half the earth (and have DVD players built in). anybody seen any? |

I think you are very much looking at the wrong thing. Both the 2.1 systems you mention and the yahamah (can never rmember how to spell their name) 1.1 system work by "bouncing" sound off side walls. The only times I have heard these working reasonably well is when you are in a perfectly regular shaped room and the times I have heard them in irregular rooms they were poor at best.
You have already mentioned the 2 leading players in the market - I believe the Kef generally got slightly better reviews but it is older technology than the denon. The other one to look at is the single speaker from yamaha but as you have to add things like a sub on top of the price of the speaker I doubt it will work out much cheaper |

Almost square is fine for them - esp if the TV is centre on one of the walls... it is when you get L shaped rooms or irregular shapes where they really fall down and you really need a "proper" 5.1 - 7.1 system - from your original post about 5.1 not being suitable for the room I assumed that you ment it was an odd/ irregular shaped room

Many decent (indpendant) hifi stores do allow customers to have home demonstrations so it may be worth seing if any in your local area are willing to offer this service given your concerns. Of cause it is then down to your own morals if you actually then pay their higher price or then go online to find the cheapest price if you decide it is right for you.
