I use this program:
http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html It's absolutely brilliant, and 100% free. I searched for ages trying to find a program that would do it for free, and eventually stumbled upon this, thinking it would rubbish if it was free, but it's the complete opposite. Just choose your output file (MPEG-4 for iPods), and you're set. You can even choose the bit-rate for video and audio. Only takes a couple of minutes for a 4-5 minute video to be converted. Hope this helps.

Thanking you! I find the quickest/fastest (100%success rate) to encode video is PocketDivXEncoder = http://divx.ppccool.com/ which is what i use for my Archos Av500 i.e time taken to encode 4 minute music video: PocketDivXencoder = 1 minute Super = 5 minutes (i really like the amount of options/settings available on this program = but too slow?) Mpegstreamclip = 12 minutes (far too slow!???) With PocketDivXencoder there may not be a specific setting for an ipod but if you play about with the optional device settings available i am sure you will find a setting that will suit you ie correct resolution etc....

Does anyone know of any decent converters that do not have watermarks or limitations on them?

If I record programmes on my laptop via a USB box receiving freeview, how long would it take to convert the mpeg 4 to a recognised IPOD format?

I use http://www.pspvideo9.com/.
Converts into MP4 format with various settings for FPS, Audio and resolution. Works a treat for me. |
