Perhaps if you gave some indications of what you want to do with a recorder people could give some advice about the suitability of this or some other option.
For instance do you want to make permanent recordings or do you just want to record things to watch once when it suits you and delete them?
Will you want to record two things at the same time?
Do you want to take recordings and play them on other DVD players?

I guess it would help.

I'd like to be able to record TV and either watch then delete, and then maybe store some on DVD, and watch on my DVD player, or other DVD players.

I also like the function of being able to record something while watching another TV show.

Another think I'd love to do, but not sure is possible is record things from my Sky TV box, I no longer have subscription, but wouldn't mind being able to record some of the shows on the FTV channels, mainly TWC.

Looks as if you do need a box with both DVD and Hard Drive. They will perform all but one of your requirements. That is because they only have one Freeview tuner they can only record one Freeview program at a time. This applies to all HDD/DVDR recorders in that price range.
To record 2 Freeview channels at once you will need a twin tuner HDD recorder (PVR) but unfortunately none of these have DVD recorders so do not meet your other requirements.
Im addition only recorders with a DVDR will record from an external source like Sky. The twin tuners without a DVDR will not do this.
So it looks like on balance you have probably choosen the right kind of recorder.
Whether the one you are considering is the best one at that price I do not know.

Lol, it is an admission that I don't share too often

So, if I just forget the whole DVD part ( as I guess that is the least important) when all I really need is a twin tuner PVR thing which will allow me to watch a show, and record another one on the Freeview, but not from any other source.

So in theory, if I was to purchase a DVD recorder seperate, I could possibly link this up to the Freeview and record TV onto DVD?

I have a twin tuner/hard disc for freeview, but also a seperate DVD recorder. I can record from the hard disc via the scart cable to the dvd recorder. One limitation in doing this (compared with an all in one system) is that the transfer is at "real time" - you can't copy from hard disc to dvd via scart at [for example] 4X. With all on HDD-DVD combi's you should in theory be able to "hi-speed copy".

and yes, in the same situation, I can simply have the freeview live picture running, and the dvd recorder will record that via scart as well.

My dvd recorder also has its own built in Freeview chip, so I have a further option of recording freeview direct from the aerial cord onto blank dvd's.

I notice the Freeview side doesn't seem to have Mheg5 (Interactive Red Button)
So you couldn't access any interactive channel capability. I just wondered if this would n't get on your nerves after a while...
Is there anything out there that has interactive features (I mean at similar price levels to this machine)
