using ipod video with mains recharger

Hi Guys,

Just bought an ipod 30Gb video for my daughter (haven't opened the box yet) and a cheap mains recharger from Amazon. Though I might put a couple of movies on it for her. Since the spec says battery life is only two hours for video playback what I want to know is:

1. can the ipod play the movie whilst the mains charger is plugged in?

2. will this mean that it will play for more than the two hours without dying?

3. will it knacker the battery doing this?

4. will the ipod spontaneously combust in her hands giving her third-degree burns?

She probably won't want to sit for two+ hours watching such a small screen anyway but thought I'd ask first before suggesting it.

It is suggested that you regulary fully charge then entirely use up the battery as opposed to using a little then constantly topping it up. Something to do with the battery having a memory, not sure of the truth behind that but it's something to consider.

I believe electronic devices charge the battery while connected to the mains, and then when the battery is full...the power from the mains bi-passes the battery and just powers the device so the battery won't become nackard.

For example my iBook when connected to the mains will charge the battery...then i can take off the whole battery and work it just from the mains!
