Now i'm not sure if anyone else is getting these calls but for the past 6 weeks or so at least once a day im getting a call from these people. the first few times i simply asked them to take my number out of there system. Then i was just hanging up on them. But today after trying to explain im really not interested the guy on the other end accused me of attacking HIM!! I was calm and polite and all he could do was shout at me about attacking him personally! I called my phone company and all they could do was put my number as ex-directory, he couldnt get hold of the number they are calling from though.

I really dont want to have to change my number but i really want to get rid of these calls!! Can anyone help??

Register your phone number with the telephone preference service - then, after 28 days fo rthe registration to take effect, you can tell any cold callers that they're breaking the law by phoning you as you're on the telephone preference list.

If they continue to call, you can report them and they'll be in legal trouble.

I switched from contract to PAYG in Feb, and I get dealers phoning me offering me a contract upgrade even now. Docklands Telecom are one of the worst culprits, ringing me in 2005 and 2006 around February/March.

Have also been cold-called by companies named "North East Telecoms" and one with an 0161-643 number, and serveral others. I've started collecting their numbers on my phone book so that when they ring next year I can insult them automatically, just for fun.

I registered with TPS in May 2003, and have only ever dealt with CPW or Orange shops since I took the number out in Feb 1999, upgrading the contract in July 2001 and March 2005.

What's worse is that some of these dealers they say they are ringing up on behalf of Orange. On phoning Orange, they say that NO dealer rings customers on their behalf. So they are breaking TPS guidelines and lying in order to try to get business.

Last one was this week:
Cold caller "I'm ringing from xxx, in order to offer you an upgrade to the handset on your Orange contract"
Me: "Firstly, I'm registered with Telephone Preference service which means you are breaking the law, and secondly, I'm not on contract, I'm on Just Talk - What free handset upgrades are you offering to customers on Just Talk?"
Cold caller: "Ah, sorry. Goodbye."

I guess I should have just told them to F**k off (If THEY break the law in phoning me, then they can't complain at my attitude if they receive expletives thrown back at them)

Not as such, but on a couple of occasions recently, I have received what appear to be automated calls from an unavailable number, usually in the early evening (around 5pm) .. when I pick up the phone I can hear it ringing... then after about 10 seconds an automated voice comes on saying something along the lines of "This call was made on behalf of CLT, there are no agents available to take your call, please try again later"

The thing is I never made the call in the first place and I don't have any dealings with a company called CLT.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

I had the same problem with companies doing this to me.

They told me that my partner was not listed as having an upgraded Motorola PEBL. I said total bollocks, we've had it replaced already with Orange Care. They hung up.

My friend works as a manager for Orange and she told me that you need to report them by dialling 150 and giving orange upgrade the caller id of the company.

i had a company do this about two months ago,a guy with an indian sounding voice,asked me did i want a free,3 network phone with free minuets,when i said no he asked me why not,when i said i am happy as i am carefull not to give out too many details,he seemed a liitle annoyed and finished the call.what made it worse was i am ex directory.

Yep, its about that time when my old contract ended and a loda of companies ae after my business. I just play with them - "we can better your contract" is their normal line.

However when they learn that I am on the Orange virgin tarriff (nothing per month, just billed for calls) and that my bill is between £5 to £8 per month, they go quiet, and close the call.

Had another call on my Mobile today at 1:40pm caller ID was withheld, and the caller was male.

Them: "Hi, I'm ringing from Phoneshop to do with your Orange contract"
Me: "who?"
Them: "Phoneshop"

(thinks, I've never dealt with a company called Phoneshop, and don't have an Orange contract anyway)

Me: "Well, as I'm registered with Telephone Preference Service, you are breaking the law by phoning me so f*ck off"

The call suddenly ended.
