There is as much intolerance and bigotry in London as any where else. There are a lot of violent attacks against those gays/lesbians that lead open lives.
However you are not entirely wrong - London (and perhaps Manchester and Brighton) is, I imagine, very different to where Mossopp comes from in one very important respect. London has a large gay/lesbian community with all the resourses,facilities and support networks that come with any large community of people. For example, it's easy to meet people, there are many gay/lesbian clubs/pubs/coffee shops open day and night. There are accommadation agencies dealing with just gay/lesbian flatshares, local authorities are more sympathetic to the housing needs of gay people compared to many other parts of the country, there are all sorts of telephone 'helplines' offering free advise/support to the lonely, vulnerable and to those with legal problems etc etc.......but, yes, there are still many difficulties and problems.
