VoIP HEEEEELP!
I have bought a new DLink wireless 4-port ethernet 2-socket phone VoIP router and am having an unusuall problem!
I am using internetcalls.com as my VoIP provider, now, if I connect the router at home via my cable modem I can access the VoIP calls, however I can only do this via my burgler alarm (it has phone features). No other phone seems to work with it, if I bring the router into the office it doesn't want to work with our asdl router/firewall, I think the firewall is stopping it from working, however, again here the only thing I can get a dial tone on is our HP all in one fax, none of the phones seem to work with it. I've tried different cables, swapping cables, absolutely everything, anyone know what i am doing wrong??? |

Sounds like a problem with the RJ11 adapter (as I take it the router has an adapter to plug in a UK style phone). Try something like this -
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...ocket&doy=2m10 You'd need the more expensive version which incorporates a capacitor. If you can get a dialtone on a fax, you should get one on a phone but some equipment like a standard phone may just not like it and you'd need the adapter I've mentioned. Conversely, some DECT phones don't have this issue so try a DECT cordless out of curiosity. Otherwise get that adapter I've mentioned, and even if it doesn't work you can always return it for a refund. |

How right you were!!!! I noticed that we had an old fax machine in the back of the office that had a similar connected on the back of it, took it over to the router and now all my phones are working!!!!
I need to get another one as the router has 2 phone ports but now I'm having another problem, at home with my cable modem all is fine, in the office this is my setup. 3Com ASDL Router/DHCP/Firewall connected to the WAN port of the DLink VoIP router, it seems as if the 3Com firewall is cuasing a problem, I can only seem to call a few numbers and even then I cannot hear the other person, although they can hear me perfect. I think my only option is to buy an ASDL modem (I obviously discarded the one I was previously using when I get othe 3com router) and plug that into the D-Link thus cutting out the 3COM, the DLink has built in firewall and DHCP anyway so more or less does the same as the 3Com, it just doesn't have a modem! Any more thoughts on that guys! |

If you can't hear them then it's most likely a problem with port forwardings on the 3COM router. Do you have the option of UPNP on the 3COM router?
It's possible the D-Link router still won't do that though as it expects to be the gateway itself rather than feeding directly into another. You might need to setup port forwardings manually. (5060 and 5061 for a start, can't remember the ports that are commonly used for the RTP streams though and those are the ones you need here as they carry the voice signal). Yes I'd agree probably port forwarding issues. Glad the other problem with the RJ11 adapter has been sorted anyway.
