The simple answer is no; it's not possible for them to.

What ever number you dial you only pay that rate, you can't suddenly be charged a different rate on that connected call by the callee transfering you.

Where you could get charged is when using indirect carriers such as 1899 or 18185, but you need an account with them, you dial their access number on 0808 and then dial a destination, there system then bills you to your account. The 0808 access number is used from non-BT lines who can use short access codes.

When you are put through, you are still being charged as if you are still on the phone to 118118, as techincally it is still the same call.

You are still on the 118 118 call, so are being billed for your 118 118 call.

Why people use rip off 118 services, and even more puzzling is why people pay to be put through, when just having the number, hanging up, and dialling will be much cheaper, especially if it's a freephone number, or even a standard number, at most if you know what you are doing will only cost 3p for the entire call.

Me (recorded): BT 118500, which name please?
Caller: I want to complain about my bill, it's too expensive.
Me: Then you need the BT billing department. The number for that is 0800 (whatever it was).
Caller: Can you put me through to that?
Me: This number's free if you hang up and dial it from a BT landline, if I connect you, you will be charged at (whatever the rate was).
Caller: Put me through please.
(I hit Connect and sigh)
