Erin has a boyfriend someone more her own age and not a dancer.

Anton and Erin were briefly engaged when they first got together as dance partners but it fell apart. Dont know why. perhaps it would never have worked as I am told they argue all the time. Anton is something like 10 years older than Erin.

Anton is actually younger than Erin's boyfriend.

I have always sensed that they are not best friends but have a good professional relationship. Last series when Erin was making comments about Patsy and Zoe's quick steps we got to see the not so sweet side of her character.
Anton seems to keep his dark side very well hidden if he has one. I think he's a sweetie.
They do look good together when they dance though! I always thought that Erin was about 34 and Anton about 40. Is that anywhere near?

I think Erin was born in '75 (making her 31), but I'm not sure. And I don't know about Anton.

I've always got the impression that there was something a bit "Navratilova" about Erin.....

Don't know why I thought it, I just always did. But I'm more than happy to be corrected on that. Still can't quite get my head round her and Anton being previously engaged though.....think they make a great dancing couple, but can't see them as a "couple" couple.

Good for you, dancingbearbear, I too had terrible trouble understanding that post. It's best only to use English on the Forums, so that we can all understand it. We don't all speak txt!!!!!!!

Actually, now that I think about it, I definitely remember reading something (during last year's SCD) where Anton said that you should never shag your dance partner, because it only leads to problems.

That sounds like something Anton would say

bit insulting to Fred's dancing to compare Anton to him!

Fred and Ginger could not stand each other btw (or so film biogs say)

Their biggest assest in the SCD/television format is that they have good personalities that shine through in all that they do. They may not be the most technically proficient dancers but in the context of a Saturday night entertainment show that's not really the point. The bottom line is that they entertain with a mixture of skills and personality and that's why they're so popular with the general public. I know when Anton and Erin are on the screen I am going to have a good time watching them.

I'm a huge F&G fan and I don't think its true that they couldn't stand each other - I've heard it was something more like the fact that they had completely different personalities, Fred was more private with his feelings and things than Ginger, it doesn't mean they didn't get on

Anton and Erin are great by the way. I think in some ways they look a bit like F&G too!

I think I heard that Fred though Ginger was a little bit common. Didn't they used to say that he gave her class and she gave him sex (not literally of course!)

I enjoy watching both couples, I prefer Ginger to Erin though, and Anton to Fred.

Why oh why did they let Fred sing? Still thought he was brill though, as a child Easter Parade was my fav movie.

It's true that once you've, ahem, 'shagged your partner' the sexual tension goes out of the dancing relationship. Far better to always have that 'are they/aren't they' mystique about the partnership, to keep it fresh and interesting.

That's not to say that some married couples are not great dancers. Cast your mind back to when Marcus and Karen Hilton competed (those of you who are around my age!!). They danced beautifully together, look as if they are made for each other and were called the new Fred and Ginger in their day. But the sexual side of their dancing started to diminish in my opinion after they got married and I always wondered if that was the reason why they stopped competing in Latin to concentrate on Ballroom instead.

For the record, I don't think that there is anyone who can dance a foxtrot quite like these two

I've heard that too, but then I've also read stuff from Fred's daughter saying that it was just a popular myth and they used to get on OK. Not best of friends (her own admission) but didn't hate each other.
Apparently he always used to send her flowers on her birthday and made a joke out of one of the incidents that allegedly caused them to fall out - her frock for 'Cheek to Cheek' was covered in ostrich feathers which kept falling off and annoying him - so he affectionately nicknamed her 'feathers'. Apologies if I've got any of this wrong.

yeh I remember that dance sequence, the viewer can't see the feathers coming off, I've looked really hard and I can't see them, they must have been really small and Fred breathed them in or got them in his mouth.

Funny

There was a program recently about it, where they froze the film shots. And you can see the feathers flying in all directions as she dances.

I remember seeing an interview with Fred from years back about 'that dress!'

He said that he would always try to steer Ginger away from dresses that were distracting or difficult to dance in and his pet hate was feathers, because they do shed. When you get hot and sticky from dancing, they get stuck to you all over and get in your mouth and it is horrible.

In the interview, Fred said that Ginger had refused to allow him to see 'that dress' saying that she had chosen it with someone else and that he should trust her becasue it would look fabulous on screen.

Well, he said that he was waiting on the set for her and she arrived in this feathered creation. It was far too late for her to arrange an alternative dress so he had to grit his teeth and get on with it. IIRC he said that all the way though the routine, he was blowing feathers out of the way and putting up with them tickling his face all over!

He did say though that when he watched the playback, he thought that the dress did indeed look lovely on screen!

Anyone else remember Ginger bleeding into her shoe at the end of a routine? Can't remember which one - but you can see the colour of one shoe dramatically change colour.

I think it was 'Never Gonna Dance' from Swing Time. Beautiful routine, and you can't help feeling the extra pain of the situation!
