.. is this facility still available. I am enquiring as I can not find any mention of it on the BT Website.

For those of you who are now aware of this service, the BT system used to call you back after a call and would tell you how much the call cost (excluding VAT and any discounts)

I was aware of it, but that was many years ago so don't know if it is still available.

There is the facility to check your current balance since your last bill settlement using their automated telephone service. I'm affraid I cannot remember the menu options you have to select to find it, but it is there as I stumbled upon it atleast twice a couple of days ago while trying to pay a bill using their automated system. BTW their bill payment option is even harder to find and in a completely unrelated menu option to something obvious like 'pay your bill'.

I've just tried it on my line and it still works! The charge it gives you doesn't include VAT or any dicounts!

To setup for all calls (until you turn it off)
To set it up call *411#
To cancel #411#
To check status *#411#

To turn on during a call

Press R (recall) and wait for dial tone and then dial *40#

For a single call it's either *40# or *40* followed by the number.

I forget which and don't have a BT line to find out.

They removed the fee for Charge advice several years ago and I still use it for the few BT routed calls I make. Something for nothing from BT, there's a novelty!

If you have partially itemised billing, ie calls over 40p, calls made while charge advice is turned on will appear on your bill regardless of how much they cost.

It's still documented - just do a Google search for "book charge advice" site:bt.com.

If I remember rightly the service is no longer always 100% accurate which is why BT no longer advertises the service.

Does this service still work? I tried it recently and I was just getting the usual unobtainable messages.

It worked for me last weekend - to the extent that it called me back to tell me a call had gone out via BT (I use it to check my Orchid is correctly routing only my weekend 01/02/03 calls via BT) - but the call cost given was wildly out-of-date.
