iPod isn't recogniosed by PC - please help

Can anyone help me with an iPod problem that's totally defeated me and my mate?

In a nutshell - her computer has stopped recognising her iPod (photo).

Right - this happened a bit ago. Everything was fine until a new printer scanner and a bluetooth dongle were installed - then it just refused to see it in iTunes or Windows.

OK - so we've tried resetting the ipod, reinstalling iTunes - and even restoring the iPod to factory settings. Couldn't do this - all it said was - 'cannot mount iPod.' The iPod's been sent back to Apple - who say there's nothing wrong with it.

Anyway - another attempt today. All that happens when the iPod is plugged in is a 'do not disconnect' message. It doesn't register in iTunes - and what's more - she can't use any of the commands in iTunes while the pod is plugged in. In fact - as soon as the pod is plugged in nothing seems to work.

In desparation - we did a system restore to a time when she was sure the pod had been working - but still nothing's working at all - just the disconnect message and a frozen iTunes when she plugs it in.

Any thoughts????

Thanks for the replies

Andrew - I've read those links (and a lot of info on the apple iPod forums - and I'm going to have a look at the drive allocation letters this weekend. I think that might be part of the problem - that the bluetooth dongle has created a conflict.

I take the point about firewalls - bith looking at the settings and the point about hackers. It's something I'll look at - but be very careful.

How is it connected to the PC?

I seem to remember a mate of mine had problems because he was using a USB2 PCI card and had too many things drawing power from it.

If the printer and bluetooth dongle are connected to the same add-on PCI USB2 card as the iPod it may be struggling to cope with so many devices ....

(His PC was also prehistoric which probably didn't help and it would have had a pretty weak PSU ....)

It's a PC that's fairly new, and connected via one of the two USB2 ports at the front. That's the same one as the bluetooth device used. There's 4 USB ports at the back but the way it's positioned makes them less accessible.

Ah right .... you can probably rule out the ports being the problem in this case then.

Unplug the bluetooth dongle and the printer scanner and then connect your ipod.
