I have Beyonce's version, would have been great had Shakira sung in the spanish version too. Sadly, the British music market is very English orienated, this frustrates me who is a massive latin music lover, meaning I have to get the songs illegally. What really ticks me off is when eg. Beyonce re-realeased the album B'Day, however only the American version contained the spanish songs!!

I hate the term 'world' too. I hate the nationality lottery in music in general, actually. If you aren't from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand you won't get anywhere, no matter how innovative and/or talented you might be.

I mean, any band of ours who has any sort of mainstream success sells albums all over the world, yet how many Asian or South American groups get success over here?

Case in point- X Japan (should be obvious where they're from). At worst, they are on par with 80's glam bands like Kiss and Twisted Sister in terms of talent. At best, they could match the big rock legends such as Led Zeppelin. In fact, their best song, Art of Life, has been compared to Stairway to Heaven.

But despite this, as well as the fact that they have made several serious attempts to crack the USA, often sing in English (and very well too, I may add) and have a bandleader who A) Is a total attention seeker, B) won't give up on anything he sets his mind on and C) Lives in LA- they still haven't broken through.

Yeah...there's something not quite right there...

Anyways... some my favourites in 'world'.

Finnish
Eramaan Viimeinen- Nightwish (with Jonsu from Indica on vox)

Chinese
Lunar Eclipse- Silver Ash (For starters.)

Japanese
Muma- the Nightmare- Buck Tick (You'll want the live version- it's amazing)
Ascendead Master- Versailles (Although there is 1 word of English in the chorus. Don't ask why.)
Solitude- Moi Dix Mois
Gekka no Yasoukyoku- Malice Mizer (this is quite a strange song, though)
Metamorphose- Lareine
Hai no Yuki- Exist Trace

Also, I'll second any Rammstein suggestions you have. Slovenian band Laibach also have a few songs entirely in German, I believe.

Mylene Farmer - Pourvu Quells Soient Douces
Les Rita Mitsouko - Le Petit Train

Both received regular airplay back in the day in the UK via MTV Europe which would never happen now (although the Mylene video was late nights only )

Or for something more recent

Ich und Ich - Vom Selbern Stern or Stark
Nena - Wir Sind Wahr
...and I seem to like the many french cover versions Kate Ryan is currently churning out

Yes, I like Kate Ryan too.

She's just released a French Language Greatest Hits CD called "French Connection" that includes tracks such as "Voyage Voyage", "Ella, Elle L'a" and "Babacar".

Of course some artists who usually record in English have over the years released tracks in other languages.

I love the Spanish language album by Abba "Oro" which is their Spanish language Greatest Hits CD released here in the UK and throughout the world. I don't speak Spanish but still like the sound of tracks such as "Dancing Queen" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You" in Spanish. As it includes a booklet with the lyrics in Spanish I've been able to learn a bit of Spanish.

If you like ridiculous camp things, I'm going to attempt to infect you with this strange creation that turned up in my French lesson (Apparently it's the French assistant's favourite song. Yes. Really).

Oh, and this. I found it in the dingy backwaters of TvTropes.

Belgium's entry to the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest in Den Haag, Holland :-

Telex - Eurovision

The greatest Eurovision entry/performance ever.

They were so cool (deliberately trying to come last) and funny.
Way ahead of their time.
