Did this once with my code - think i was playing with too many of the buttons and locked it and it asked for PUK code - just had to give virgin mobile a ring (vodafone in your case) and sorted me out with that over the phone.
Think that some phones/sim cards come with the OUK code when you buy it - not sure about that though, |

Don't want to alarm you or anything but I've only ever heard of a PUK code being needed to unlock a phone which has either been tampered with or if a security/pin code has been incorrectly entered too many times. If its a brand new phone it should have a default pin code eg 1111 (it will be in the handbook) but you should not be asked for a PUK code on a brand new phone on your first attempt to assign your pin.
Hopefully all thats caused it is someone trying the phone out for you to make sure it works and pehaps pressed a few too many buttons. Anyway as per previous post give the Service Provider a call to sort it out for you. |

when you enter a pin code wrong 3 times, this locks the phone up, and it requires a puk code. this a long 'unlock' number, which is based on your mobile phone number, and is available from your network. if you enter this code, you will be asked to set a new pin code, then you can keep the puk safe, because it will always be the same. but if you enter it incorrectly, (in your case you did) your sim card will be perminantly blocked (hence the sim card rejected message). im not too sure weather you can actually unblock it, its best to call up vodafone for some advice. at worst, you might have to but another sim from the carphone warehouse or another similar store, then have your old number transfered to it. iirc though, vodafone currenty have an offer running where if you transfer the number over, you'll get £20 credit on the new sim.

I believe if you enter a wrong code (when asked for a PUK) a number of times, then your SIM card will lock up completely.

Not if the sim card is blocked - you wont be able to enter it.Quote:

if you've got the reciept, i'd go back and act dumb or blame your child or something. sure it's happened to lots of people. my daughter managed to block my son's and we got it sorted.

where did you buy if from? as eskel said, i'm sure most places would replace it for you. if it comes to it, sim cards are about £10-£20.

Or just take your mob phone down to Vodafone store or Carphone warehouse and they will be able to do this.
Last Christmas I did this forgot my pin and had the same thing, Your best bet is to take it down a Vodafone store & they'll do it for you. She even gave me my puk code in case it happened again. But I think you only get 10 chances to enter the correct PUK code before your sim card becomes unless & I think in this case you need to get a new sim card :'( |
