I'm after a dvd player, below £200, I'm moving towards the Encore DV-450 or the Lecson 9000??

Are these any good or is there any other decent ones ???

I know a few people who have bought the encore 450 and all of them are pleased with it , it`s also muti region out of the box , like everything else , you get what you pay for so the performance doesn`t match the likes of sony but you knew that already , i`d say go for it and good luck .

Have you considered the Wharfdale 750S?

It's £180 from Tesco's, multi-region from the box (with a remote hack which I can't remember right now), plays CD-Rs, MP3s, and is DD and DTS compatible.

And apparently the picture is damned fine, although I can't claim to have looked at one myself.

Regards,
Mark

I've now found the LG3350e dvd player for sale at http://www.dabs.com for £188.99 inc of vat and delivery You can read a review of this 1st class player in Dvd Buyer Magazine where even at it's recommended price of £280 it gets a great review
It plays all the formats ie cdr mp3 etc it's got a Dolby Digital decoder and supports DTS It also has a multi region hand set hack :
· 1. Make sure there is no disc in the player when you turn it on
· 2. Press 'PAUSE' on the remote
· 3. Press 3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9 on the remote and the word CODE will appear
· 4. Press the key for the region you require - 1 for region1, 2 for region 2, 0 for all
· 5. Press 'PAUSE' again
· 6. Turn the player on and off

Check it out
My reply on the 25th Jan had the wrong model sorry!!!
this is the correct model (LG 3350E not LC 3500)

If your main concern is excellent picture and sound quality and are not interested in thinks like mp3 and cd-rw support, I would highly recommend the Toshiba SD-100E. This is an excellent 'budget' player and is available multi-region for £169 + vat at http://www.techtronics.com. I bought one of these when they were a £100 more than this, so a real bargain now. I have not had a single problem with this and it has played every r1 and r2 disk I have tried.

RCE is a problem for this player, although there are remote hacks to play the existing RCE titles and Techtronics are offering free RCE upgrade with this player when available.

The new minato G1 (as in Grundig type 1?) from Tesco looks like a rebadged Grundig but for £100 less than the Grundig. According to the mags, the grundig is a good one to have so if the minato does all the same things .... it is probably the one I will go for since the Wharfedales disappeared from my local Tesco.
