If any of you got a moblie for Xmas with poly ringtones here are a couple of sites ( which require WAP access ) to get some free tones from. I've tried a few of the tones and they aren't bad...

http://www.frostzone.com/

http://www.midirings.co.uk/ ( limited bandwidth )

Have fun

I found somthing better than Polymorphic, i use the actual songs, well clips from it. Grab the bit of the track you want then save it as a WAV File. Now it will be massive, so you use somthing like Adobe Premier to lower the bit rate etc of the WAV file, so its down to like 300K for a 20 sec clip. Then upload to phone, sounds much better

Yes.....if you have a phone that will play them. We all know how much you love your 7650, but not everyone is so well gifted in the mobile phone department.

Why the hell do we need all of these different ringtones? Surely the "ring-ring" of the phone will suffice, after all the point of a mobile phone is to use it to communicate and not to annoy people on the train because of difficulty choosing the right ringtone and playing different ones aloud each time.

If you've got a T300 you can send midi files to it to use as a ringtone.... now if only i can find some decent sounding midi files to use as ringtones!

(Who am i kidding, i'm happy with 'ring ring')

Poly ringtones aren't bad. It's a way to express yourself It's just a developenment, they needed sth. new. Now we have polys, cameras and later they'll build in a shaver or so.
This downloading Ringtones via WAP is much too expensive I think. The best way is to download normal free MIDI's and cut them with a sequencer.
By the way, does anybody know how to convert normal wav or mp3 files into amr?? My phone just plays MIDI and this AMR??

dslrocks- The whole point in this thread is so people can find poly tones, not for you to come on and whinge about them! But your right, aren't there far many other pointless things on this planet??? i.e those stupid stainless steel tea pots that every restaraunt, hotel and bar seem to have. You know the ones where people burn themselves severely whilst trying to pour a cup of tea form one. Not to mention half of it is all over the table after you manage to grip the thin stupid handle as they ALL leak from the top.

Every sod has used one. Now you see what I mean about pointless and REALLY pointless, some people can think of worse I'm sure!

Now for my question, I'm getting the Panasonic GD87 hopefully today if not soon-after. Can I upload MIDI files from this?

Ripsaw82 - How much better is this and can you answer the above question!

Thanks all, grays - great finding those tones by the way, well done!

Sorry, what I meant was how much better quality is it when you rip a Song and copy it to MIDI, then upgrade it to your phone Via PC? Do you have some basic instructions as to how I may acheive this? Thanks mate.

Sybok - Digidots.co.uk is another great place for poly tones, any other ones?

Do not know, as i have never uploaded any MIDI files only WAV. When i rip a song and pop it on my phone, it sounds the same as it did on the Hifi. Just of course a bit more tinny, as mobiles do not have sub woofers

NedFlanders - Once you've got to the tone you're after downloading you have to use the up and down cursor keys and eventually you get to a download menu option, this is after you've scrolled through all the details of how many times the tone's been downloaded etc.,.At least that's what I just managed on me Nokia 3510.

Hope that helps..

Hi grays, thanks for replying, but the problem is before I actually come to that part. When I type in the address as instructed (www.digidots.co.uk/wap/index.wml) it tells me this crap about free Nokia RTTTL ringtones, polyphonic, sceensaves etc etc but nowhere can I click downloads. It's really frustrating cuz there's a few really good tunse on it!

Ripsaw82 - I will try the wave trick as soon as I get my GD87, I am praying that it supports WAV!

Thanks

P.S - Where can I get a subwoofer and an Amp???

Hi NedFlanders

Please don't take offence when I ask this but you are accessing the site from your phone and not the net aren't you?

Here's what I get from my phone.

I connect to the site then get the digidots logo. Cursor down and hit ok over "enter" to get into the site.

Then cursor to the option to enter the number ( poly id ) of the tune as you see it on the website.

Enter it and cursor down to "find"

Once it finds your tone cursor down to download now and it sends you your tone.

The whole process took me about a minute so on my Orange pay as you go plan it cost about 10p...

I didn't get any blurb about rtttl tones or anything like that.

Hope the above helps.

Thanks mate, Yes I am accessing it from my phone and no offense taken!

I've tried it again and again and I just keep getting that stupid message with no logos or nothing!

What's the address you are connecting to?

Thanks again mate!

Pleased no offence taken.

Blimey this is SO weird...!

I'm connecting to www.digidots.co.uk/wap/index.wml, when my phone dials out and connects to it I get the digidots logo coming up and the rest is as in my previous post.

Not sure what phone you've got, mine's a Nokia 3510 p'raps yours ain't supported by the site? Don't know enough about the clever bits to be any more techy than that.. But there is a compatibility list on the site.

Lemme know how it goes.

Tipps for the GD87: You can use MIDI and AMR files as ringtones. AMR is comparable with .wav and you can convert .wav into .amr files.
@Ned - You can upload normal MIDI files of course. You should do this via Infrared connection. How to do this you can read in the manual.
It would be better to cut the midi files with a sequencer cause most of the normal midi's from the internet don't start immediately and so cannot be used as ringtones.
IrDa is a very useful feature of the GD87 and you should use it very often also for background pictures e.g.
