Just seen this on argos website. Wondering what others make of it. I prefer CRT over plasma/lcd as i think the contrast is much better but never thought they could make crts HD ready. Looks the biz and a nice price too.

Yep looks like a fine unit, although 32" is probably the largest, which is where LCD/Plasma flat screens come into more.

a friend of mine tried 2 of these 32" but sent it back because the focus was very poor, i suggest you have a look at one on dislay first( comets usually have them on display)

The old Samsung 'slimfit' tv's were notorious for geometry problems, the new HD and IDTV's seem better though.

I assume he is meaning geometry.

CRT's were/are notorious for poor geometry. You know straight away if the set has poor geometry, menus, walls, door frames, lampposts, anything in reality that should be perfectly straight vertically will bow or appear bent. Usually gets worse the further the image gets from the center of the screen.

Super flat CRT screens eliminated this to a certain degree, but it was still present on many sets.

Marks & Spencer are also doing this TV with a 5year guarantee
just keep your receipt. They had one on display in their Pudsey Store. The 32" is £449 and the 21" is £149

Sorry if this confuses some people, but this series of tvs are NOT "normal" HD. They pass a standard for a vertical aspect of HD and so can carry the hd ready logos. This is why the picture quality is really good in the center of the picture but terrible elsewhere.

I had high hopes for this tv as it promised all the features of a crt with the added bonus of a slimmer design.

I hope Samsung produce a next generation of these and iron out these issues.
