Anyone know of any good free SMS sites that are pretty easy to use and quick to send? I have used things like Lycos before and they are absolute poo.

Cardboardfish at www.cbfsms.com or alternatively try www.sms.ac. Sms.ac has severe limitations on the number per day you can send free though. I've never used CBF but my friend uses it all the time and he would recommend it. (and in fact has done on several occaisions )

Do these sites sell the 'phone numbers to companies so then the 'phone numbers start to get 'junk mail' type messages?

Stick with 02/Genie, 100 free per month, and just register 2-3x.

Yes u get the occasional spam but its well worth it and better then spending 10p per SMS.

And I still demand SMS be free via mobiles, or for a set fee each month

I keep getting an error when sending one from the first listed site:

I usually use virginstudent as this gives you a free e-mail account (like I needed another one, but hey) and 10 free SMS a day (with the option to "upgrade" your account for a small amount of £ which gives you something like 100 SMS a day - but 10 usually does me fine!

Hope this helps,

Craig
