I've noticed the US iTunes has been selling TV programmes for a while now, but I've never heard anything about the UK version following suit. You can't buy from the US one, I assume for copyright reasons. Anyone know if we will eventually get this opportunity?

There are a multitude of issues to counter.

First Apple Operates on a worldwide basis, there is not only the UK to consider - Canada, Australia and the rest of Europe would expect a store for TV shows.

Then Apple has to negotiate rights with the TV companies. The BBC is also an issue for Apple to get around. They are not going to be able to sell videos.

I notice the US has shows like Lost which are owned by whatever channel that it's on in America. Would those laws not apply here or would they have to get Channel 4's permission?

I don't think I'd buy a mas of TV shows, it'd just be nice to have the option.

it may take a while to sort out, but i wouldn't have thought 'never'.

it took a while to sort out the music store, but they did eventually.

when they launched the movie store recently Jobs indicated that they 'hoped' the service would launch in europe sometime next year.

so 2008 might be a good guess, and if it appears sooner, then so much the better.

but it's the way it's going - the BBC media player thing is trialling this year, and expected to launch fully in the spring, and channel 4 have been providing downloads online too.
