Changing to new address at work

Thanks to anyone who can help.

We are changing to a new place at work and BT say that we can not take are numbers with us. Both places are within a mile and have the same code 02890.

Is there any way for us to keep our numbers!

If the two locations are served by the same exchange then there is no reason at all why you should not be able to keep the same numbers. It is a relatively simple process for BT to do.

However if they are on different exchanges then you have limited options. BT cannot transfer numbers between exchanges for whatever reason. All you can do is either port the number to another service provider or get BT to call forward the numbers between exchanges.

At work we have a number that is actually on a different exchange and went through this process. BT could not port it internally to our serving exchange so we ended up paying to have it permanently forwarded to another number on our serving exchange.

In theory BT can map any of their numbers to any port/line on any exchange - they just don't.

There is a way around it if you have cable in your area (cable let you take your number with you to anywhere in the STD code area)

Swap to cable. You can even swap back to BT afterwards and keep your number again. In essence you will have moved, kept your number and still be with BT.

Why don't they just allow you to take the number along in the 1st place?
