Motown Week
Jeanie
13-10-2006
Just heard on my local radio station that theme this week will be Motown.

Also brief snippet of an interview with Kerry saying that she'd love to be able to make some grand entrances as the show progresses (she obviously thinks she's going to last a while...) - but for the first couple of shows she wants people to get to know her as she is, in the wheelchair.

Motown could be interesting I think Robert, Ben and hopefully Leona could do really well.

Hmmm would be interesting to hear what Kerry thinks some of her entrances could be.

On a slide? Flying/trapeze style? Perhaps rising out of the floor sitting in the branches of a fake tree to take the piss out of the show mentioning why she is in a wheelchair every few minutes? good luck to her anyway

The only ones that I can see having a struggle with this are The MacDonalds and Eton Road.

But, ya neva know.

Good theme though a few may struggle. Obviously Kerry feels she will last a good few weeks though I have to agree with her as the judges are not likely to vote her out.

Motown is always a good one to start off with (a usual opening theme on American Idol). Most should do well.

They might do OK on 'My Girl' or something like that, although they and Simon's contestants are probably far too young to be familiar with the Motown songs, which puts them at a bit of a disadvantage.

The MacDonalds, or either act? Good suggestion.

A Temptations song might suit either act.

The Motown Sound is a style of soul music with distinctive characteristics, including the use of tambourine along with drums, bass instrumentation, a distinctive melodic and chord structure, and a "call and response" singing style originating in gospel music.

Among the most important architects of The Motown Sound were the members of Motown's in-house team of songwriters and record producers, including Motown founder Berry Gordy, William "Smokey" Robinson, Norman Whitfield & Barrett Strong, and the team of Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Edward Holland, Jr., collectively known as Holland-Dozier-Holland. Crucial to the sound was the work of Motown's in-house band, The Funk Brothers, who performed the instrumentation on most Motown hits from 1959 to 1972.

Wow! This should be fun.

I wouldn't like to predict who will come out good or bad on this.

Motown will be a challenge if you are talking about some of its original artists

Diana Ross
Stevie Wonder
Marvin Gaye
Smokey Robinson
Jimmy Ruffin
Gladys Knight
Rose Royce
Mary Wilson
Edwin Starr
Brenda Holloway
Cuba Gooding Snr.
(All of the Jacksons)
Thelma Houston..................................etc etc...

And the bands?

The Jackson Five
The Commodores
The Supremes
The Miracles
Four Tops
Meat Loaf
The Marvellettes
The Pointer Sisters
The Miracles
Martha & The Vandellas
The Undisputed Truth
The Temptations
Boyz II Men......................................etc....etc

The list is more expansive, but I would imagine that we will get songlists from any of the above.

A tall order indeed.

Good luck to them all.
